All tracks use the same instrument!!

Hello, I have Sonar 2.0 and a Roland XV-5050. I use the 5050's editor to change patches. But when I go to the next track and choose a different patch, my first track also changes to the new patch. Do I need to change a channel in the 5050 as well as in Sonar? If so, how? If not, then what should I do? Thanks.
 
that's because you adress the global channel... you have to set up each track/part on the 5050 to respond to a different channel... otherwise you'll be talking to every track at the same time...
 
Thanks Chriss and Mikeh. I'm sorry to sound like a baby that needs it's hand held, but can you tell me how to set up tracks in the 5050, or whatever you use that may be close to the 5050? Again, thanks.
 
In patch mode - hit the patch button, then press system, then press the cursor to get to the top display line, then turn the valu knob choose MIDI, then move the cursor to the bottom display line, then turn the value knob to RX channel - then select the MIDI channel you want to recieve on.

This channel must match the MIDI channel you and sending from the controller.
