Alesis io26 Vs. Firepod

Hey folks- noob here.

I have a little bit of experience with home recording, had a digi001 back in about 2000 for a couple of years. Sold it when hard times hit. I currently use a Toneport UX2 and i really like the gearbox modeling software.

I'm getting married in a few months so budget is a real concern of mine, but i'd like to upgrade to at least 8 mic pres. The firepod looks like a real winner, but for $399 Sweetwater has what looks like to be a similar product from Alesis called the IO26. Does anyone have any experience with this interface? Would love any info that you could throw my way. I would like to track drums, bass with the new interface and then pick up the rest of the guitar/vocal tracks with Gearbox.

Great site. Have been lurking for a while now, really enjoying myself.

I'm also actually looking at the IO26. I'm not too sure, but the specs are pretty decent.
