Ive used a 2000 extensively over at a freinds studio. They do have a learning curve but its not that bad really. once you know how to use it, it will take care of all your sampling production and editing needs. For techno or hiphop Id say its probley the way to go. Theres also the Roland SP808 which I have thats does the same things Thats alittle cheaper. It has a ZIP drive instead of a floppy.
I just posted a reply in recording techniques page you might wanna check out. Its under "i dont know anything" by Galahad or something and he asked a similiar question about techno production but I dont think he knew anything about it. I gave him a long rap about the different techno samplers and synths.
For what it sounds like you wanna do I think its fine. If you can be more specific about what you want to do with it Ill tell you if its capable.
