Advice on buying a synth

Hey guys I am looking into buying a synth for some live work, I have been using my emu proteus 2000 sound module with a controller which has provided me with what I need but i want something all in one. I need something that has some good moog and fender rhodes type sounds on it (kinda Rentals, weezer, get up kids style). Yhis isnt really my specialist field so any advice would be great. I have about £300 budget. Thats probably about $500? Cheers Jimmy

That's really not enough for a good performing synth, unless you can find something local to you used. Check your local music stores and whatever you have over there comparable to CraigsList.

Sound on Sound also have a good 2nd hand synth section. It's probably not what you're after, but, I've just bought a Korg Z1 for £370, the keyboard isn't the best but the amount of controllers make it a very expressive machine indeed, and it can sound amazing if programmed properly. The preset sounds are seriously lacking and are incredibly misleading, and it isn't great at 'imitating' instruments - pianos etc. What it does do very well are synth sounds, from long ambient, warped out sounds to shreiking mad leads and everything inbetween!
