Acoustic instrument recording on I-pad 3

Hi, I have my own home recording studio where I record acoustic guitar, vocals and so on.
The way I do this is by having my condenser and dynamic mic's connected to an audio mixer and then from there the mixer is connected to a USB audio interface and then into my laptop (not a mac).

Now how would I achieve this with the Ipad3?

1- Would I need to still use the USB audio interface and connect that to my Ipad?

2- Can I connect the mic's directly into the Ipad without the interface, can the Ipad internal sound card handle it?

3- What software can I use to achieve this?

Any answers to the above would be very helpful.

Thanks

Dan

It's my understanding the iPad is only 16bit/44.1khz
You can connect usb devices to an iPad, but you'd have to contact the manufacturer to see if your interface is compatible (may not be if drivers dont work)

Garageband is on the iPad. You can record and sequence in that.
