Looking to buy two good Mic's to record acoustic guitar. I have been told it is best to position one by the body and one by the neck. Is this good advice? Also, what type of mic is best for this?

Here are a couple of links I've found for acoustic guitar recording...

As to the mic choices, I'd recommend digging through the forums for some input. There's a lot of great information to be found.

FWIW, I use a Neumann TLM103 and a Rode NT1000 for acoustic recording. I really like the sound I get from both mics, but I'm sure there are a good many others that would yield similar results. Just try a bunch out and go with what you like. :)

For the hole:

The AKG C3000B ($299) is not bad. Very bright, so it would depend on the guitar and the player.

I love my Shure KSM44 ($675-699) for acoustic guitar. Great vocal mic, too. Very warm sound. It's a bit more in price, but the other Shure KSm series mics (the 27 and 32) are less expensive and have a comparable sound.

Some like to AT 4033 ($299 to $400) for acoustic guitar.

For the neck:

Try a pencil condensor like the Shure SM81 or the less expensive Oktava 012.

You just gotta try a few out and then purchase to your budget.
