A voice question...

I know there's another voice question, I have a pretty deep speaking voice, but when I sing it's quite a bit higher, is this just me forcing it higher, you think? it just seems hard for me to find a comfortable range, my music is like a mix of Indie and Grunge with a little something else thrown in there (weird, I know) and I can't figure out my own style. so, my question is this, how do you find your own vocal style? also, can a person with a deep voice (though I'm not sure if mine is) make it in this type of music? (in your opinion) I may have more questions, but they're not hitting me at the moment.
 
but see, my voice isn't really that strange, there's very little roughness to it that I can find and I wouldn't know how to add that if I wanted to, I will post a clip as soon as I get over this cold I have right now
