i'm planning on grabbing this barebones kit, then upgrading the RAM by about a gig, and throwing my current CD/rw drive in it, along with my firewire PCI card.

now.

Can win 2000 address 2 gigs of ram? and will win 2000 work with both mackie tracktion and the alesis io|26? i wouldn't mind running xp at all but 2000 tends to hog a bit less on resources.

does anyone think the processor speed is going to be an issue? hard drive wont be as i'm using an external drive i already have.

with a modern cpu like that there wont be any resource problems with XP and there are a million reasons to use XP over 2k since some programs require XP and getting 2k to work with modern hardware may cause issues also.

Those nforce chipsets can be sketchy so make sure you do your homework and read up on that mobo. You really do get what you pay for so there probably is a reason those are dirt cheap

Dude. Check out this machine I'm selling.

It would come to you fully assembled/w a fresh install of Win XP and a 24 bit soundcard.
This is a very solid computer.I jst want a laptop, and also have a half decent Athlon desktop, so the one I'm selling is more than I need. I haven't ever put more than a 10% dent in the CPU while running multiple VST and VSTI plugins.

You know you'll have to re-install whichever OS you decide to go with, right? You will not be able just to plug in the drive to the new motherboard, boot up and have it work. It won't. You will be starting from scratch with the OS. Which means you will have to re-install all your applications.

I have an Asus P5SNLI which uses nVidia chipsets and have had no problems at all.
