8 track problem

Tried the analog only forum, but no-one's biting...

My Yamaha MT8X is giving me trouble. When I play back recordings, they seems to be kinda flanged / wobbly. I've tried different tapes, since I left one near a speaker, and thought that might be the problem, but no joy. What would you expect to cause this, and how could it be fixed? Am I looking at dropping it in for repair, or is it something like alignment / head cleaning I need?
 
Thanks, man. Is that a matter of getting a cloth in there and poking around? I have a cheapo head cleaning kit ; will that do the trick?

No... do it by hand...... and you DON'T want to use isopropyl alcohol on your Pinch Roller - use proper rubber cleaner.
 
and when you think you have it clean, clean it again. If the oxide build-up is the problem you're going to be at it awhile to get it all.
