Will a spdif to a usb adapter work well to get my recordings onto the computer with minimal loss of quality? I don't have the money to invest in a firewire or such things.

If it's all digital, quality will not degrade. I believe you will only be able to transfer 2 channels at a time through spdif.
Did you have any particular adaptor in mind?
