I am currently using my Sony home stereo receiver for mixing and playback. It works pretty well (better when my yorkville monitors arrive in mail soon!), but I am thinking of getting a reference amp. However, seeing how technology is advancing, I'm wondering if it would just be better to get a decent home stereo receiver with dolby 5.1 surround sound capability. I mean, how close are we to having a joystick for panning instead of a knob? I guess I can forsee the day in the not so distant future when even the self-contained recording devices like Korg, akai and roland have an optical out that will support 5.1 surround.
