I have a bunch of files that were recorded on my friends Delta 66 that are in 24/96. I have a MobilePRE and N-track.

Is it possible for me to playback the 24/96 tracks? (I am thinking no)

How much quality will I lose if I convert everything to 16/48?

Thanks

the last i've tried.....no media player i know does 24/96.

you lose 8 bits of quality you dont lose a whole lot. but after making it in 24/96 and listening to it in 24/96 you notice a difference with 16/48. BUT! most people who listen to music dont listen to it in 24/96 so they dont know the difference :)

Doesn't you soundcard have to be able to support 24 bit in order for you to play it back?

your sound card has to have 24bit converters to play it back....but that doesnt mean that media players have the converters to play it....thats the difference

Winamp 2.95 plays back 24-bit files out of the box. I know, I've tried.

Windows Media player and Musicmatch cannot. I believe there is an update for Media player 7 that adds 24-96 support.

WMP9 should be theoretically able to handle it as it supports DVD-A. So should the Creative playcenter that is bundled with the 24-bit cards from Creative.

Audacity will do it for you, plus a whole lot more
