24 bit console to a 16 bit recorder?????

In the scenerio of tracking from an 02R, which is a 24 bit console, to something like that DA-88, which is 16 Bit; I'm a little confussed on how that works digitally. Not going out of the 02R analog then through the DA-88 converters. Is there still a good way to do that? Thanks
 
It should be fine as long as the frequencies are the same. Clock issues may be a problem if your digital out on the O2R is 96k. You should be able to set your digital output frequency and bit depth on the O2R.
Does the O2R have a TDIF option?
 
I have an O2R, press the digital I/O button 3 times. This screen allows setting the word length for the busses and stereo output. You can adjust your busses from 24 to 16 here. The O2R does have a TDIF option which allows a direct digital connection.
