Hey guys,

Got my Motu 828, i'm happy happy happy with it. Did some drumming and was able to monitor my playing with a flanger... ooo that's fun...

Anyhoot, so, now i'm greedy, i want to use 8 mics for my drums, which leaves none for the rest of the band to record scratch or tracks or whatever.

What i'm looking for is a cheap way to utilize the other inputs on my 828, my mixer is feeding the 8 analog in's, I want something to feed the 2 sp/dif or 8 adat ins.

What box with lights can you recommend that will take some mics, convert them, and out them as spdif/adat cheaply?

I say cheaply because i don't really care about the quality of the audio (pre's), as these extra in's will most likely be used for scratch tracks and the like.

I've looked at the M-Audio flying cow, that looks like what i'm looking for, but it seems a little spendy. Cruddy pre's and cruddy converters i'm ok with.

Am i looking at a mixer? An Adat machine? Whaddaya think?

Thanks in advance.

Well, i found a few ---

Fostex makes a bunch, 8 channels Adat/Sp/dif/aes http://www.fostex.co.jp/int/pages/products/access/cop2.htm

Midiman makes The Flying Cow 2 channels sp/dif i/o http://www.midiman.com/products/tools.php
(I've also found the Flying Calf A/D and the Flying Calf D/A ... yeah)

Dbx makes a 2 channel tube mic pre with digital out...

That's what i've found so far -- i figured this would be a usfull topic, seeing as lot of people have bought boxes that have adat or sp/dif in's and don't reilize they can take advantage of them.

Peas.
