can you hook up an tascam m-30 mixer to a tascam 244 portastudio??

Thanks. I’m glad it’s helpful. I think I just tend to be detailed, not necessarily because someone is less experienced or whatever. Or, like, I don’t think of it that way…the response is tailored, or I try to tailor it to what I think is helpful regardless of where the other person is at in...

can you hook up an tascam m-30 mixer to a tascam 244 portastudio??

Yes, a mixing console is a handy and more universally applicable tool in the studio IMO. It makes sense to acquire it first before the tape machine if you’re staggering the acquisition. Yes you need a mixer for the A8, not a “desk”, just a console…the term “desk” as it applies to a mixing...

can you hook up an tascam m-30 mixer to a tascam 244 portastudio??

It’s not going to sound substantially different. There may be perceptible differences, particularly the mic amp since the 244 uses an unbalanced wide-range transistor-based input amp, and the M-30 has transformer-balanced mic specific mic amps. The main thing the M-30 would do is offer greater...

    Tascam M 208 mixer problem

It’s helps to add just a little solder when you do it.

    Composite Video Cable Question

Lol which collided with my experience accidentally ripping cheap RCA jacks apart!

    Composite Video Cable Question

Get some pliers and pull that out. That’s the sheild shell of an RCA jack that came apart when they pulled the plug off of it. Twist it and pull it out with some pliers and discard.

Can you post a pic of what you are talking about? I can’t picture it from your description.

    Tascam M 208 mixer problem

Take a soldering iron and heat up each of the solder joints to melt the solder and essentially re-do the welds.

    Tascam M 208 mixer problem

The pot is mounted to the PCB. My hunch is you just need to re-flow the solder joints. It probably got bumped at some point and cracked a solder joint.

    CS-607 Rack Refurb

Can you post a pic of the part that’s missing? I might have them. I have some spare CS-607 parts. I don’t have any documentation that shows dimensions or anything…never seen anything like that. But the owner’s manual has exploded views. Maybe you can identify the part from the pics below and...

    Tascam M 208 mixer problem

It is R421 on the MONITOR PCB. It is a 20K A-taper pot with two elements in tandem…so it is marked “20KAX2”. But before you go further, what is the specific problem you are having? I ask because the pot is fed by 4000 series logic (an LC4966) and there is a pattern of those going bad in a...

Just got a new toy! Tascam M-208

Good deal. So…you used isopropyl alcohol to…lubricate the pots and faders? Or was the alcohol used just for cleaning surfaces internally and you used something else to clean and lubricate the pots and faders?

Just got a new toy! Tascam M-208

Just open up the Focusrite Mix Control application and look at the output levels…set them all the same. They are probably at different levels. There is no soldering involved in an M-200 input PCB swap…but you’ll have to carefully remove the buss PCB that goes across the bottom of all the...

    Tascam Portastudio 464

I really appreciate your transparency. Sometimes, when I’ve done something I wonder in my gut if it caused my problem, it’s hard to publicly say “I did that”. But it is ultimately helpful and there’s certainly no judgment here. Step 1: place that cassette cleaning/demagnetizing cartridge in...

Just got a new toy! Tascam M-208

You’re far better off to use the unbalanced line level signals *unless* your cable runs are over 25’ or so, -OR- you are having actual issues with induced and unwanted noise interference. I need to save the following diatribe to a note somewhere so I can copy and paste it when needed because...

Just got a new toy! Tascam M-208

You typically would have to use the PAD because the XLR inputs are for mic level sig als and if you want to use them as balanced line inputs you have to pad the signal because line level is much hotter than mic level. What interface are you using? Have you considered whether or not there is...

    Tascam Portastudio 464

Could be, but in my experience edge track issue like that on a 4 to 8 track cassette multitrack machine usually tie back to a bad pinch roller. For whatever reason I’m finding consistency across multiple makes of cassette machines where the pinch roller still seems serviceable to the naked eye...

Nagra III help? Motor doesnt spin on play/record, only when fast forwarding

Step 1, if you don’t have it already, get the service manual, and go through the transport checks and adjustments. You could also open it up and see if the capstan motor is getting power when in PLAY. There are separate motors for the spooling and capstan drive functions.

Tascam 34 - meters doing strange things

Yeah that was my line of thinking, Dave…because Rob’s issue is global I took a look at the global OUTPUT SELECT circuitry. It looks like the INPUT mode is different than SYNC or OUTPUT…the latter two when engaged ground switching FETs to a common ground rail to change the source path for the...
