Feedback Ferret and DBX Feedback Eliminator and others

Does anyone have any opinions on using such products? Background : We're an a capella band with 6 live handheld mic's on stage, and not enough money for in ear monitors. i'm currently notching out frequencies during sound checks. but i must just suck, casue i inevitably miss frequencies...

Audio tracks slightly out of sync

sampling rates? I encountered a similar problem when i opened a .bun file that someone else gave me. He recorded in 44.1 and I recorded in 48khz. or some variation on that. Sonar will play the wave at whatever sonar's setting is set at (redundant? *grin*). Thus, when all the waves are...

A live gig for the first time...

Alright, The opportunity came up for me to mic and mix a live gig. It's going to be heavy on vocals and background vocals...hell...it's a college accapella group. :) I've never done anything like this before, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/tips for me. Since I've only...

Who is this Harvey Gerst jerk and why should I listen to anything he says?

I looked through the current threads trying to find a good place to post this, but this old thread still seemed like the most appropriate place. Harvey, Sorry it took me so long to post this. I've been out of town with no computer...gasp! *grin* So I had the opportunity to roll out and check...

What's the deal with Behringer mixers?

I didn't know about any of this stuff before I made my first "investment" in my "studio". *grin* using words like that make me sound so professional. Thanks for all the info, guys. yeah. I knew that I needed something to amp/eq/mix my inputs and I just looked for the cheapest thing...

What's the deal with Behringer mixers?

Ok. This is probably a dumb question, but why do behringer mixers have such a bad rep? I got into home recording about a year ago, and I brought whatever gear I could afford, including a behringer mixer and a radio shack mic. doh. (I'm bracing myself for the flaming I'm gonna get) =^) I...

Who is this Harvey Gerst jerk and why should I listen to anything he says?

Whoa Harvey - what an opportunity! But I'm not sure you realize how much of a "newbie" I really am. I'm afraid that if I came to your studio, I might just get in the way and be annoying and incompetant (sp?). I'd be like the kid who got to go to the cockpit of the airplane. I'd be amazed...

Who is this Harvey Gerst jerk and why should I listen to anything he says?

Hey Harvey Man...am I tired. I stayed up till 4AM last night reading through all your posts. I think I have now read most (if not all) of your (Harvey's) posts! I also got to know some of the more interesting personalities here @ homerecording.com. (ie. Steve Lamansky) I was...

Harvey, Ed, Rec Eng, etc... V67, 4033... advice

Hey Slack, Where are these posts by Harvey that got you so excited? I wanna read 'em too! I do a lot of vocal recording (a cappella music) so I'm thinking that an LD condensor (i.e. the V67) would be a good match...well...that and it's more in my budget. Also, whats wrong with the c1000 or...

    Problem importing a midi file

ok. So I've got a midi file, and it seems ok, becuase other programs can play it. I wrote it in an arranging program, and exported it to midi (type 1?). I don't know anything about midi, and I don't even want it in the final song. I just need it to keep in tempo and in key(vocals). When I...

    Using the mixdown feature

aha. I WAS processing the master channel. Why didn't I think of that? duh. So that mystery is solved. but now I have a new question. When I'm mixing down, I'm using the default settings (ie. use soundcard settings). what happens when if I decide to use 24 or 16 bits? and also, what is...

    How many tracks !!!

oh boy... I just want to complain about my machine and put things in perspective for you guys. *grin* I'm using a Pentium 166 (with the all important MMX), 48 megs of ram, and a 2 gig hard drive. I'm about an order of magnitude behind you guys. I crank the buffering up all the way, and I...

    Using the mixdown feature

hi everyone. Another dumb question by Baltjack. =^) I'm recording with a "clockspeed challenged" machine...(aka a dinosaur). So I'm mixing down all the time to reduce the number of tracks and get acceptable performance out of my poor machine. But, whenever I mix down, I'm always surprised...

    Makeshift pop filter

Jags -- If you've got some lying around try using some pantyhose or sheer stockings. I went to a craft store and brought one of those circles that people use for needlepoint. Strech some pantyhose in it, and viola! just like the real thing. ...yes I am male ...NO they are not MY pantyhose...

    Plug - In

Is this problem only with that one song? Or is it with your other songs as well? If its only that one song, you could import the .wav files into a new .sng and add the effects back in one at a time. Good luck... Balt
