I was recently in your position, and looked into quite a few options. If you are looking only for a controller, the Fatars come very well-recommended by a number of sources, and are an incredible value. TimObrien gives good advice, as there are a number of excellent websites with quality free...
Here's a stupid question, and I'm sure it's on here somewhere, but couldn't narrow it down enough.
I've got one of the DMP3 mic pres, and I'm wondering if I turn on phantom power for a condenser, will it affect a dynamic SM57 plugged into the other channel? I mean, I know it will affect it, as...
Elliott Smith (RIP), my favorite musician in recent memory, used vocal doubling to great end. The guy was an absolutely amazing guitarist and songwriter/arranger, but really he didn't have a very good voice. Almost everything you hear from his studio albums is (at least) doubled. On the album...
I use left-justified, although I have no idea why, it just works! I have had a LOT more luck with my WDM drivers than my ASIO drivers with nTrack and my Echo Mia.
You'll need to do either beat slicing, or use a program that stretches/compresses wave files to match a tempo.
Slicers are a little more complicated, and time-consuming, IMO, but offer far more control, and often better sound. Propellerhead's Recycle is absolutely amazing! The new 2.1 release...
Hi J.
Sorry, but this is not possible with nTrack alone. You are, I assume trying to use a drum loop (meaning a wave file that is a measure or two in length)?
Uh, now I'm confused too. My understanding was that the USB 2.0 protocol upgrade essentially made audio through the USB port possible.
G, these companies say they have zero latency because the devices always come with a button you can press for direct monitoring of the source, so it's basically...
I'm pretty sure I know what you are talking about, and you should be able to drag the channel settings back into view. You can get to them all in the Mixer also.
With loops you are going to have to match tempos, using either time-stretching programs, such as Acid, or beatslicing, as in Propellerhead's Recycle. The sound isn't as good as Recycle, but IMO Acid (Screenblast version) is probably the easiest way to do this, and the least expensive (about...
The US122 is a USB outboard device that looks like it has some nice features, and for a great price. You musy have USB 2.0 capability on your PC, though. Most new computers already have it. I think you can upgrade to it on older computers by purchasing a PCI card at Best Buy. I know WinXP...
I use FLStudio Producer, and it's pretty awesome! Strange program in a lot of ways, though. The basic features are easy to learn, and it's fun to tweak, but this is a DEEP program, and the more advanced stuff is not always easy to figure out. Documentation on the more advanced feature sets is...
You suck! This program costs $45 for the 16bit version, and $69 for the 24bit version. Download the demo and try it. If you like it, buy the damn serial number yourself!
Thanks for the tips all! May seem like overkill, but it is important enough to me that I just yesterday:
1 Put a fresh install of XP on the hard drive
2 Tweaked away to optimize performance based on the recommendations on musicxp.net, and this helpful doc from Tascam
3 Installed only my audio...
I been using nTrack for years on a crappy Win98SE machine. I finally got sick of it (Win98 that is), and built a new machine. 2.6GHz, 1.5GB RAM, Echo Mia soundcard, WinXP. Verrry nice. Except now nTrack is acting quite wacky, crashing and what-not. I can't use the "Live" mode to play guitar...
What audio interface do you use (soundcard)? Some have a phones jack built in, many don't.
Do you use the Behringer as your front end? That is, do you plug your mics and instruments into it before recording into your computer?
I have 1/4" outs on my soundcard, that I plug into a small...
Yes, you can do this. It has XLR, and 1/4" in and out. I have one that I use the XLR in for recording mic, or 1/4" in for DI. In each case, the out is a 1/4" to my Echo Mia soundcard.
