    Probably a stupid question, but...

I have actually run the analog outputs of a firepod into the analog inputs of a digi002. I am sure there is a clock issue with this, but the firepod does operate as an analog piece, that is, it doesn't have to be plugged into the firewire port in order to work. The audio will pass through. I...

    Mic advice please?

Do you like the sound of the vocals on Michael Jackson's Thriller? The SM7 is a great mic for vocal reproduction, and I am not just saying that because I work here. :)

    Real Time Bouncing

Yeah, when I go to my masterlink I obviously don't mind bouncing, it saves a copy to my masterlink. I have known about this limitation for years, as I started on Pro Tools Free back in 2000, but I was hoping one of you knew some kind of trick. Doesn't hurt to ask I suppose.

    Using the grid

I am familiar with using the grid to cut and paste regions and so forth. What I meant to really ask is using the beat detective. I would like to be able to shift some not so great drum patterns to better match a beat. Kinda falls into the same category as pasting the singer's hook 15 times....

    Real Time Bouncing

Is there anyway to not have to do a real time bounce in protools? Many other programs allow you to simply export you mix in a stereo file. Sometimes, I just want the mix out quickly and don't want to sit and wait for the tune to play through again. Any clues? I know how to export a single track...

    Using the grid

Do you guys know of any good tutorials on using the grid in pro tools? I have been using pro tools for many years and now and I am some what capable of using the grid. I would like to get kick ass at it though. Any direction?

problems with my Shure Beta 52A

Noramlly, dropping this microphone won't cause damage to it. I am sure you did this, but did you check your firepod with otehr mics to be sure that the firepod itself isn't faulty? If you have, then you can contact the Shure service department to get it repaired or replaced. There is a two year...

    Help with broken Beta 58A

Did you cut the wires or were they broken in the first place? Generally, you are supposed to be able to rmove the grill without that entire cartrdige coming off the whole body of the mic. YOu can send that mic to the service department and see what they have to say. 800-25-SHURE (257-4873)

    Banjo & Fiddle

i have used ksm141s, ksm137s and ksm109s on violins, mandolins, banjos and cellos. I like the sound of the 109s the best since the 109 has the least defined sound out of the three. My reasoning on that is like Tom says, these are shrill insturments and having less definition is actually helpful...

    Electrical interference when recording

i noticed you are using an internal soundcard here. i am not too familiar with M-Audio products, but I am sure they offer shielding. I can replicate exactly what you describe with my ThinkPad's internal sound card. It I put on a pair of headphones right off the card, I can hear all the noises...

Shure SM58 or Beta 58 for recording of vocals

I have used the SM58, the BETA58A and the SM7B on a variety of studio vocal recordings. I like all three for different applications. With microphones, I have a hard time telling someone which one is better for his or her voice because I haven't heard the voice yet. That is why I buy as many mics...

Are "vintage" SM7's really any better?

There is not a sonic difference between the two. You are all correct. The shielding was improved to protect when monitors were introduced into studios, and the mount was improved as well. Sonically, it is the exact same.

    firewire or usb

You still don't address the issue of how the protocol is handled with USB vs Firewire. This gives Firewire an extreme advantage. While Apple contributed to the development, they are not soley responsible for the IEEE standard.

    firewire or usb

Actually, Firewire can give you bandwidth. USB is limited in how many ins/outs you can have. Although USB 2.0 is technically faster than Firewire 400 (Usb 2.0 = 480 mbps Firewire 400 = 400 mbps), It doesn't really matter because the audio is moving a rate at which it can not get any faster. I...

    Simple question from a noob

I am not a Cubase SX user, but I do this in Pro Tools all the time. This is from a Cubase Tutorial: Save processing power by routing a track to the auxiliary bus for it's effects rather than making an effect for each individual track. Setup the send effect Press F6 to bring up the VST Send...
