    Nirvana

AND ANOTHER THING! N'Sync and Backstreet Boys do suck. Did anyone else see the SuperBowl when Aerosmith was on with some of the lightweights like Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys (or was it N'Sync)- what an embarassment!

Cobain was ok - but listening to some of you, you'd think he was John Lennon or something. But keep up the bitchin' - it makes for good reading!

to the extent that surround is bullshit...

Good for strolling musicians Surround is a gimmick. It's like when stereo first came out - you'd hear the singer for awhile in the left speaker and then for no reason (s)he would whip over to the right. That might be good if you were listening to a recording of a stolling musician. By the way...

    Recording level in digital

I recently went "digital" and I'll never go back. I've found that a level somewhere in the -5 to -8 gets the best sound for guitar and vocal. If I even try to inch up to 0 (not going into the red) it doesn't sound as good to me. But my analog mind keeps saying to push towards the red(even though...

    Nashville Tuning

It's my understanding that the G is an octave. I strung up an old Yamaha 6-string with the Nashville Tuning strings - it's really cool - a whole different sound! Try the website from the post above in Gidge's message - gives tunings and some chord charts.

    John Hiatt

The song, "Perfectly Good Guitar" almost made me blubber when I first heard it - shows his love (and mine) for the guitar! Great songwriter.

    Nashville Tuning

I've been playing guitar for 35+ years - this is really going to sound dumb - but I must have missed something - what are the strings tuned to for "Nashville Tuning"???

    Midi pickup for electric guitar?

I have a midi sound module that I use for strings, solo instruments, etc. The guitar sounds are really true, but when played with a keyboard the guitar qualities are lost even though the sound is there. If I bought a midi pickup and added it to an electric guitar would I get reasonably authentic...

    Compression Depression

Thanks for the help DaveO - I think I'm getting the idea, basically use it only if you need it - I'll do some expirimenting. I just got shipment on my Yamaha AW4416 workstation. Hey Paulie, you're a real drummer and I'm a real guitar player - we should form a band and play real instruments -...

    Compression Depression

I'm new - I guess "newbie" is the term we like to use here. I'll be doing a lot of recording of vocals, accoustic guitars, drum machine and samples. Any advice on what would be a good starting point to set compression ratios so I can get the instruments to jump out without crushing the life out...

    Mixdown inspiration

My Virgin Post - Be Gentle! My first day as a member and I'm excited about the website. I'm new to the home studio concept although I'm somewhat of a recording veteran. I decided to take the plunge now because high quality recording is becoming more and more accessable to people like me. I'm...
