10 years ago… I remember recording tracks onto my stereo tape deck, running them from there into a VCR and then recording live to that playback onto a second VCR. At least I think that’s how I did it??? Can’t remember exactly… Those were the good old days. Honestly, I don’t think I knew what the...
When I think of Behringer, I visualize silver equipment shining in the sun :) . No, seriously... Behringer reminds me of the color silver, and I don't think I like that very much. Nothing againts the "ART silver"... I like the MPA GOLD. However, "Behringer silver"... No! No, no, no!
Yes!
I've heard really good things about the TASCAM CD recorders. In fact, my "reel to reel repair guy" is behind those machines 100%... and he's a real analog freak!
I think that having the "option" to edit and master in a computer is a very safe choice. Maybe even a "smart" choice. The sound can be great and it allows for flexibility.
Once all of the tracking and mixing is done in the analog world, sending a 2-track stereo mix to a computer is ok with me...
Thanks for sharing, guys. It's very interesting... I read somewhere that some "pro engineers" throw their mixes down to -20db and then send it into a computer/cd, and then the mastering engineer does his magic from there. I'm curious about that... Not sure if this is true???
I'm just curious as to where you analog guys send your 2 track mix. Computer? 2-track reel to reel? cd recorder?
And how loud is your stereo mix when you send it to your mixdown deck?
Just curious :)
No, I'm using a reel to reel machine. No computer in sight. I took my gear to my girlfriend's house yesterday, and the power was nice and clean. It's definitely a power problem that's originating from the electrical setup in my walls (or outside in the powerlines...whatever...), not the gear...
There is a cordless phone in the room...I'll try moving that out of the area...It's interesting, I've managed to get a nice quiet signal when I place the mic under the doorway in my room. However, that's not really ideal. Hummm...
Hi guys,
I'm hearing an electrical buzzing in my headphones . Last night I moved some gear into my living room and did a test. I sat on the ground and slowly moved my mic in different directions. I heard a loud buzzing in some spots and soft buzzing in other spots. Regardless, there was...

I'm working with a fostex R8. Recently, on playback, I'm hearing the sound turn from, well...a normal playback sound, to a muffled playback sound. Would this be the tape heads dying?
Not sure what the problem is.
They're Yorkville YSM1P monitors. I'm working in a small space...Maybe I'll wheel up a spare "mini desk" and use that for the R2R to sit on (away from the monitors). I had a feeling that my setup was a bad idea...
Thanks guys...
Any other thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks again! :)
I currently have my Reel to Reel tape machine sitting between my monitors on my desk. There’s about a foot and a half of space between the R2R and the monitors (on both sides). Is this ok? Or is it a bad idea?
Thanks mates!
Hi everyone.
I'm using a Fostex R8 with a Fostex 350 mixer. Total analog...And I want to mix from analog (8 tracks) to digital (2 tracks on my computer). Could anyone recommend a computer program that I can use to mix down to 2 tracks?
Thanks! :)
