I'd like to "second" that thought. I bought
a 604 pair, which come with the omni caps.
Great results X/Y (135 degrees) and over
the shoulder. This also tamed all phase
issues and removed "crisp" from my take
on their sound.
Dear Harvey,
Over the last year I began selling the
dulcimers I make over the internet. I
have a good bit of recording experience
from about 40-years ago, so I knew
that microphones no longer had cranks
on the side, but still, to provide sound clips to
potential buyers, I needed to advance
my...
I recently purchased two Avantone's from AAAudio. I ordered them
because they looked and turned out to be overbuilt. They are also
very repairable. The spider is very short and tight on my 604s. I
read here or on another site that the MXL mount was easily broken.
The Avantones came with an...
I think you did a great job. It looks far better
than the original. If it were mine....? I'd go to
the hobby store and get a bottle of Tester's
model paint in the same color as the original
paint that was removed, and I'd paint and
wipe the engraving on it so that just the
lettering was green...
How about Classical Guitar with XY config Large Diaphragm Condensors?
I'm about to begin a good bit of classical guitar recording. There's
been a lot positive said in the mic forum about using the Studio
Project B1, large diaphragm condensor for acoustic guitars, so I'm
thinking about picking...
Just an added thought....
Well, maybe there's more that can be said. I think the answer to your
question depends on why you're asking and what you're going to do with
what you record. Not everybody here is trying to make the next
"Rubber Soul" or "The Wall" in their den recording studio.
If...

Hey Joel,
I think the best feature of this forum is that we're not being
set upon with an excessive amount of ads and commercialism.
Trying to stay in line with that..... I make mountain dulcimers
and very-small guitars. The sound...
Thank both of you for responding. Harvey, your offer is
very kind! I can hear from the clip SSR referenced that
the 604s should work. I've been adding recordings of
the musical instruments I make and post on eBay. My
little 1970's studio has a very cold sound and other
problems. Thank you both...
There have been a few references here about MXL's 604 mic. I'm wondering if anyone has tried one or a pair yet. It would be nice to get some feedback about it as I've been holding back a purchace till I get some sense of it.
While I'm at this I'd like to thank everyone who posts here. Reading...
