    New shed studio

It was just an assumption/guesstimate. I've seen an example of a stud wall with an STC of 40 where the transmission loss is >35dB for most frequencies but tails off below 160Hz down as far as 15dB. If we assume an average volume of 85dB, then 15dB is 17.65%. The stud wall described is...

    New shed studio

Thanks Mike. I've calculated that 44% of the surface area of the walls and ceiling will be treated and 33% will be treated with 4" Rockwool with a gap of at least 2". I know the space is pretty tiny, but surely that'll help somewhat. Also, on the point that bass won't just pass through walls...

    New shed studio

Hi guys, hope you're doing well in these crazy times. I've not posted on here for almost decade. After learning everything you'd ever need to know about home studio building, and meeting a bunch of brilliant people from all over the world, I built a studio from a bomb shelter (like the image...

    Naiant X-S

Unfortunately I don't think it'd be worth sending back across the Atlantic. I bought them to bring them to UK and Europe. You can buy X-Os direct from Naiant for US $54 each. These are new versions, similar to the X-Ts I'm selling. Jon still sells the X-S for US$39 if you want that. Naiant -...

Naiant microphones available in the UK!

Back in 2008 I invested in some Naiant microphones from HR member and Naiant owner mshilarious aka Jon O’Neil. I ordered them in bulk with the intention of being their main UK retailer, but it never quite worked out as I'd hoped. I found my stock again recently and am now selling the X-S on...

    Naiant X-S

The X-Ts are now available at Naiant X-T Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone | eBay. I have 4 flat response and 1 tailored. I just checked my records and I sold these mics at £37+p&p back in 2008, so these are a bargain (below cost price).

    Naiant X-S

For anyone in the UK interested in buying these mics, I ordered some Naiants in bulk a few years ago with the intention of being their main UK retailer, but it never quite worked out as I'd hoped. I found my stock again recently and am now selling the X-S on ebay at £19.95 + £4 p&p (£1 each...

    Auralex Platfoam + Green Glue

Hi guys. Not been on here in months. I completed my degree in Commercial Music gaining 2:1 with honours :) Thanks for all your help in achieving that. I'm planning to build a riser for the PA system at a local music venue to help with sound isolation. I plan to use Auralex Platfoam and MDF to...

    Study into HOME RECORDING

Hi guys, I'm writing a dissertation on the cultural aspects of home recording for my BA(hons) final year. Uni is one of the main reasons I haven't posted for a while, as well as the "new" theme feeling rather uninviting. Anyway, as part of this dissertation I am conducting interviews and a...

How Do You Store Your Cables?

I just recently bought a cable drum for all my XLRs. Works pretty well, just click them together and roll 'em up. Keeps them tidy :)

    Simple acoustic treatment advice

How about moving the wardrobe over to where your tv is and using you tv as your pc monitor? You could also use your studio monitors for better sound with your tv. Add bass traps in all the corners you can, including ceiling corners, treat first reflection points and get a big cushiony headboard...
