    Hackintosh + Logic 8 ?

I am using Leopard 10.5.2 and Logic Studio on my Thinkpad T60p. It runs very well, but my Hercules 1612FW is causing real issues, audio dropouts and stuff like that. It works great on Windows XP, but the Mac drivers Hercules makes just don't cut it.

Live choir amplification (not looking for suggestions, just thoughts!)

Hi There, Won't bother you asking for mic suggestions, just for some thoughts on the subject (although suggestions along the way are welcome!). :) I'm in the market for a set of overhead microphones for a 20-30 person choir. We mostly sing in church, but also in open-air or other venues...

Is there any behringer gear that is "good"?

I've had no problems with my Behringer UB1002 and UB1204PRO mixers. Especially the "PRO" is a great thing for my band practices and gigs. I don't think the EQ is quite as 'musical' as they describe it, but as I said, for practices and small gigs it's just fine. Love the many outputs and routing...

    best wah sound

I haven't tried any of the other wahs, but I really really like my VOX V847 reissue. Got it quite cheap too, about €60... Good luck, I personally don't think you could go wrong with one of the 'standard' wahs, like the Cry Baby or the VOX. Good luck!

Solid State / Modeler / Tube shootout!

Yeah, I was just going to state that this kind of test should really be done in the mic section ;) Nice test, great job! Stan.

    is 30W enough

This has to do with the tone. They SAY that by turning down the power level, you can still drive the tube in the power section, so you'll get tube-saturation. If you just turn down the volume (which can also be done, of course), you'll not drive the tube, and the sound will change. The...

    sampletank 2 softsynth??

I had no problems with importing my own samples into ST2, and I also love it :) Can't comment on Kontakt... Stan.

    Optical input bypasses card's converters?

Hi, I have a simple question: If I connect something to my SBLive's (the Platinum version with 5.25" bay and digital I/Os) Optical Input, does that mean I don't lose on sound quality after my [device]'s optical output, because it's a Creative? I am now really getting tired of my SBLive's...

    Pickup (?) hum, please help...

Yeah, well, how else could I explain? Sorry, english isn't my native language... Thanks for the tips though, I'll have a look at the grounding wire.

    Pickup (?) hum, please help...

Hi, here I am again with a probably newbie question, but: when I turn down the volume pot on my electric, there's a hum (the lower the volume of the pot, the louder the hum). If I touch the strings, the hum disappears. This sounds like a grounding problem. Now I'm handy with a soldering iron...

    USB vs MIDI

You can still keep on using your USB thing. You could also connect the MIDI in/out of your keyboad to your sound card's midi connectors. But you can also keep using the USB device.

MXL 604, Anybody try one yet?

Well, I hope I don;t get flamed for this, but the 604 is supposed to be a 603 with pad and bass roll-off, right? I believe the 993 (which has been available longer) is just about that? am I right? Stan.

    Vox AD30VT, or Pod 2.0

Yes, the vox is a very good amp, also very good for recording! I've had some stellar results with it, can't wait to get my Senn e606 to record it with. I also use the Vox live and it's a great live amp too. I also have the 30 Watt model. It has all the power I'd ever want. Stan.

    SM57, AT4047, ______ What Should I Get Next?

If I'm right the SM7 is a condenser....not a dynamic... For live vocals, I'd go with the Sennheiser E835, or the E845. Some will recommend the Shure SM58 or Shure Beta 58, which are fine mics as well, I just think the Sennheisers are a tad better, and they are a little cheaper, too. Guitar...
