    WTB:Cheap M-audio interface

Well...I've come to realize that I at least need some way to run pro-tools at home. I have a good connection for a cheap used version of M-powered, but I sold my mobilepre USB a couple years ago...guess I should have kept it. Anyone have a mobilepre, fast track, or transit they want to get rid...

Can snake returns be used for headphones?

I did it as well. My snake had mono 1/4" jacks though. I opened the connectors and found that there were three wires, but only two were used. I went to radio-shack and got cheap stereo male and female ends, soldered them in and they work great. I have no problem powering my phones to record...

Quick 703 absorber and health question

That's pretty cool, I didn't recognize any of the names so I guess they were out of the program before I entered. Thanks for the experienced advice cellardweller. Hopefully I can get my basstraps finished up early this week.

Quick 703 absorber and health question

Hmmm... no, I've never heard of them. There are literally thousands of bands in Nashville though. I did listen to their myspace, pretty interesting. In other news, I've got my 3 broadband absorbers done for the first reflection points. The panels for the sidewalls are sitting against the...

Quick 703 absorber and health question

I picked up my 703 panels, wood, L-brackets, etc today and am ready to build some absorbers (some to be placed across corners for bass freqs). Some people recommend covering them in plastic (like garbage bags) under the fabric to keep fiberglass particles from escaping. Anyone have any...

Please help me with this mix...

Thanks! I played with drum EQs and reverb some. This time I used a limiter on the kick and snare, dropped some reverb out of the OHs and snare. I think the drums sound better, a little more punchy and clear. The guitar I messed with EQ again, but I think my main problem is my amp. I have an...

Please help me with this mix...

Thanks for the comments! I worked on the areas you suggested and posted a new version in my first post. I attenuated the overheads a little and EQed a bit of the highs out. I changed the reverb on the vocals some, added some click to the kick and reworked the guitars a little. I also dropped...

Please help me with this mix...

I threw this together a couple weeks ago just to have some new tracks to work on mixing. (I'm not that great of a musician, and by NO means a singer) I realize that there are a few timing issues etc, but I would rather focus on the mix. Does anyone have any advise about what could be done...

    Cheap-ass mic cables from MusiciansFriend

I bought the 10 pack about 2 years ago, when I got them one was already dead, I can't seem to solder and fix it. By now about 4 have gone bad, and I have had to fix them. They don't hold up very well. I'm in the process of phasing them out and making mogami/neutrik cables...but it gets kind...

What the hell is wrong with my room?

So, unlike nodes and anti-nodes, room modes are heard equally in different locations around the room?

What the hell is wrong with my room?

Really? Wow, I've never heard any other mention of this effect. I'm an audio engineering major, my curriculum includes acoustics...but I've never heard of anything like this.

What the hell is wrong with my room?

I know, its crazy sounding...but its happening. Anyone want to come over and hear it? I don't know what was going on, it shouldn't be a node/anti-node problem because the amplitude was changing, also, it could be heard from all over the room. With the mattress flipped up at the rear you can...

What the hell is wrong with my room?

Well, It looks like it was a bass/reflection on the rear wall problem.... I took the mattress and set it against the rear wall, Instantly removing almost all appearances of the volume going up and down. I need some more treatment for the first reflection sites...I may just flip the mattress up...

What the hell is wrong with my room?

Hmm...Flipping the phase of one of the speakers did not change the effect on the vocal track any, it still moves up and down in volume. I don't get what is going on here, it does not do it as badly on other projects, but playing music on my monitors sounds a little funky as well, vocals seem...

What the hell is wrong with my room?

So I just moved into a new apartment and am having some FUNKY stuff happening in my control room (bedroom). Basically when I am listening with my monitors it sounds like someone is turning the volume knob on my vocal track up and down. All I have recorded is a vocal track over a karaoke song...

    DRC:digital room correction

That's pretty interesting about the difference in sound just a few inches away that they found. That's also what the speaker was saying in the seminar about using the software in full-force. I was not considering using it as a replacement for bass traps, but rather a way to smooth out a couple...

    DRC:digital room correction

Wow, good luck trying to open the file in windows though, the thing has 3 random extensions. I'm moving this weekend so will mess with it when I am in my new room.

    DRC:digital room correction

Anyone heard of this? I went to an AES seminar tonight on room acousitics, the speaker owns a company that does acousitcs for demo/project studios. He spoke of this free software that was developed by a college professor that measures the freq response of a room, makes a negative of it and...
