Definitely upgrade to the 1 gig ram and you shouldn't have any problems. As for programs, just make sure they are compatible witht he intel macs.
I got the black macbook with 1 gig of ram, and installed Ableton Live! BEFORE they came out with the universal binary, and it totally sucked...
Anyone know how Lindsey Buckinham gets his vocals to sound like that on the Fleetwood Mac album Rumours? Especially on tracks 1 and 3, Second Hand News, and Never Going Back Again. I can't tell if he's doubling the vocals, or if he's using some sort of combination of delay and reverb.... I...
IF this has been asked/answered elsewhere, please let me know...
I was wondering if it was possible to have some sort of forum started that dealt exclusively with vocal recording techniques. There are so many different, phenomenal sounding vocal techniques used on different albums, but as...
I have a very similar set up to yours, and mine works perfectly, here's what I use:
MX602A mixer (older version of yours)
I use channel 1 for the mic (Marshall MXL 2003 condenser) with phantom power. Also, I think you have to use an XLR cable for this
I use channel 2 for guitar with a...
I haven't tried a different mic, but I"m convinced that the mic is not the cause of the noise. I'm thinking maybe I"ll try a Rapco XLR cable. They are the only onese they have at the closest music store to me, and their guitar patch cords have never failed me.
There's actually a similar question I posted here about a week ago (Mixing and Mastering) and it has some good links to mixing articles from Blue Bear Sound. I found them very helpful in making my mixes sound.... well.... "less" like my basement. It actually helped quite a lot.
Also, double...
I've actually tried unplugging the mic completely and turning up the mixer. Through headphones, I can hear a hiss, but it is actually quite low, and is not the same hiss I'm picking up from the mic.
Everything else on the mixer is at zero, and the only time I ever get a hiss through my setup...
I don't know what color it is, but it's more of a hum/hiss. It is definitely not cars, fans. etc. Any type of "outside" noise that I can control, I have done so. I figure it's either cables, the mixer, the mic, or a combination of the three. That's why I want to see if I can solve the...
This question, I know, has come up many times before, with many other users. I have read some of the threads, but was hoping someone could help me to reduce the background noise from MY system. I will provide as much info. as possible:
-The only problem I am experieriencing is with background...
Warren Zevon.... unfortunately I'm one of those people who associates him with Werewolves of London. He's someone I have just never listened to, but I do know that he is very highly regarded, so I will pick some up. Thanks.
Thanks for all the advice.
Blue Bear, I'm going to read your mixing articles, thanks. Actually, I'm going to be in Ottawa this weekend. I wish I could find the time to take a look at the studio!
VISA. Also, thanks. I thought about making a pop filter, but I just haven't gotten around to...
That's what I'm doing. I guess a good example could be the album Nevermind by Nirvana. I don't want to sound like Nirvana, but the reason I mentioned this album is because its a 3 piece band. If you listen to some of the tracks on that album, the sound is absolutely huge, from both the vocals...
I forgot to mention this as well.
This song is far from complete. The drums are simply one loop, and there is a second guitar which is filling in for bass. Not to mention bad vocals. Again, I'm more concerned with the overall sound of the combination of tracks. They just don't sound full...
I EQ everything as I see fit. If I think a certain track sounds decent in the mix, I leave it... if it sounds bad, I change it. My problem is more with how "full" everything sounds. The recordings, to me, just sound like several mono tracks mixed together into a stereo master.... which is...
Ok Here's one song I've done. And yes, I know the vocals are bad. I'm more concerned with the song in its entirety
The song is called You, by Travis Reid

Ok, before I post my questions, I'd like to state a few things....
-I have NOT read through EVERY post on this site, so if you think this has been answered in another post, please reply to me letting me know where I can look.
-I realize that recording is an art form, and there is no "set...
I actually like the US 122 better, because it also has the MIDI ports. Maybe I'll have to reconsider my decisions..... which were primarily based on money.
Thanks for all the input.
