    Reel To Reel mixdown

i have a 4416, and know exactly what you mean. the yamaha pre's are not that great. easiest way is to record on the aw, backup to cd, fudge it on the computer, then import it back in. that works, but is slow and a pita. i run a digitech rp2000 spdif into the board and get decent sound...

Busting strings, then they settle down...

i had a problem similar to this with a js1000. what had happened is the hgh e string had worn thru the chrom finish on the saddle, and created a burr that would break the string. to fix it, i took a pair of hemostats (any smooth metal tool will work, hemo's have a curved end, so no new...

    Acoustic Guitar Strings

i run martin m120's. the standard martin strings in light. i have tried the s&p and the marquis and they suck imho compared to the 120's. this is on 000-1, 000-15ce (mahog) and d35. same strings on all of em.

how do i put the fx on a new track?

i want to add an effect with a plug in, but have the 100% wet signal go to a new file / track. i want to keep the original as it is with no effect. i know about wet / dry etc. what i can't find is how to send the output of the effect to a new track / file and leave the original unchanged.

how do i put the fx on a new track?

won't just cloning and fx'ing end up with a track with the original and the fx? i just want the fx. im trying to do like i do with my 4416. i take the clean track, run it thru my outboard fx tank, and back into a new track, 100% wet. that way i have just the fx (ping pong echo) on a new...

    What do you record on?

i use a yamaha aw4416 to record on. when i first started with it, it was a major pita to get set up and recording. now i can plug up 8 inputs, route channels and be ready to set levels / record in about 5 min. once i get a good track recorded, i burn it to cd/rw, bring it to the computer...

How can I cut down on bleed with drum mics?

one thing that helps (and is cheap); take some paper cups, cut the bottom out and put them over the mic so the cup surounds the mic. cuts down a great deal on side leakage.

making a track louder without quality loss

my xp has always been this: if your in the red consistantly, the mix will sound bad. i never let anything get above 0. you can get away with it a little more when using tape, but with digital, red = bad :). for guitar tracks, i find a small amount of compression will add a lot to the track...

Looking for guitar mutli fx - NOT amp modelers

i have an fx2000 i picked up a few years back that does all this and more. the gnx, whatever digitech's newest multi fx unit is will have enough sounds to keep you busy and your cat scared for a long time.

    Which Acoustic Guitar??

get a good martin. the 000-15ce is great for recording, built in pickup, cutaway, mahogony body (really softens the sound compared to a 000-1). i got mine for about 8-900.
