Mic inputs WAY hot. Input at -8 and still clipping

It's this model here... http://www.portlandmusiccompany.com/q10.html Unfortunately there isn't the option to adjust the input levels on the device. Wish there was. I'm not doing anything fancy really (as far as compression or anything). Just got the mic's plugged into the Aardvark and...

Mic inputs WAY hot. Input at -8 and still clipping

I had been using a copy of Cubasis that came with my Tascam US-122. Now using Cubase LE along with an Ardvark sound card. Miking drums last night... 6 different mics (schure sm 57's and comparable), each placed about 3 inches away from thier respective drum. Got the input dialied down to -8...

    us122 recording problem

Multi, what software do you use? I haven't had any problems with Cubasis but maybe I don't know what I'm missing (Cubasis is the first and only software I've used)

    US-122 problem...still

Are you sure your RAM isn't being used up by another program (a program running in the background perhaps)? I have that problem every so often, and it's usually becuase I have to many other apps open at the same time. I've got an AMD 1.6 w/ 512 RAM and I can have cubasis and cool edit pro...

    us122 recording problem

I'm not sure I totally understand. So: You record track 1, play it back and it sounds cool. Then you select track 2, plug your headphones into the US-122, and record on track 2 (all the while it's playing track 1 in your headphones). Is that right? If so, is track 2 picking up track 1 AND...

Re: nice audio Thanks BlewGrass... There's 6 tracks on that song: 1) Guitar 2) Guitar solo 3) Main vocals 4) Deep backing vocals 5) Alternate backing vocals ("smothered in jelly") 6) Female backing vocals My setup: Homebuilt PC, 1.8ghz AMD processor, 500mb ram, Windows 2000 pro Tascam...

    Us-122

I can't think of what else it might be. One way to find out would be to rent a condensor mic from a music shop and try it with your setup.

    Us-122

Here's 2 you can check out. http://www.john7bonney.com/solo.mp3 This is Les Pual run thru a Boss DS-1 distrotion pedal into a Fender Deville amp. Mic'd with a Marshal 603s condensor mic *note* guitar comes it 9 seconds into the track http://www.john7bonney.com/WildBruskanStarfish.mp3...

    Us-122

If you can record other sounds and it's okay, it kinda sounds like the problem is at the mic. Neither the Tascam nor your PC should be distorting the signal if everything else is sounding okay. Try recording the distortion at a lower volume. Also try making random sounds into the mic and see...

    Hows this mix...?

I'm just getting into the whole recording/mixing thing so I can't offer much help, but it sounded good to me. The song was good. You're very talented. Good luck.

I'd check your input levels. It sounds like they might be too high and it's distorting the recording.

Us122 - Where is the Control Panel?!?!?

I've got XP home and it's in my windows control panel. If you haven't already, try switching your control panel view to the "classic view" (in control panel, there will be an option for that in the upper left). This lists all of the control panel options individually (instead of grouped into...

    Latency issues with 122!!!!!!!

I would scrap Windows ME if I were you, and install 2000 or XP. WinME is a joke.

    tascam us 122 setup question

Yes I was talking about phantom power. Sorry, I didn't know there was a difference (I'm a total newbie). So what is a pre-amp exactly and where is it on the device?

    tascam us 122 setup question

I've never figured out how to use the direct monitoring feature. Haven't really needed it though. I can hear the previous tracks I recorded as I'm recording a new one. There's an on/off switch for the mic pre-amp and a red light that let's you know if it's on.

    Latency issues with 122!!!!!!!

I've got a 1.6gh AMD with 512RAM in my desktop and I've never had a problem with latency. When I use my Sony Vaio laptop (1.8 P4) I have latency issues when I record over 7 tracks... strange. I'm using the copy of Cubase that came with the device. Sorry I can't offer any advice here; just...

    My drummer makes me sick!

Interesting. Our drummer has problems keeping the beat as well. How do you go about breaking that to the guy? We thougt about giving him a metronome or something but it just seems like it would be a slap in the face.
