Can you do crossfades in Audacity?

That would be a better plan. :) Good job. I hadn't noticed those before.

Can you do crossfades in Audacity?

I can't find a "crossfade" feature, but you can fake it (sort of) by fading out the first track while fading in the second track. If linear fades don't get you close enough to what you want, you can edit the envelopes of the tracks to approximate an exponential fade.

Does anyone here use any distro of linux

*raises hand* Sonar: No. But there are DAW programs for Linux. (Ardour, Rosegarden, MusE) Your interface: Depends. What interface? Check out linuxaudio.org. Don

    recording on laptop with linux/ubuntu

If you're a linux n00b, don't try to do it all yourself. Go with a multimedia distro like Ubuntu Studio (http://ubuntustudio.org) or 64 Studio (http://www.64studio.com) (which in spite of its name also has a 32-bit version). That makes installing Ardour super-easy, although you forfeit the...

    I'm New To This

I'll cut to the chase: If your source (in this case, a single microphone?) is mono, you should record to a mono track. Then you use the mono track's pan control to position that sound on your stereo soundstage when you mix the song. Don

    Home Recording & Audiofanzine

Well put. This place isn't perfect, but it is comfortable, like an old shoe. I for one would be disappointed if the changes were too sudden or too fundamental. A light touch is called for, in my opinion. Don

    audacity 1.2.6 wtf??

I don't know of any reason why it would do that, not that I'm a particular expert with Audacity. What OS? Did you recently install a service pack (assuming Windows)? Did you acquire or start using any new plugins? Did your project get suddenly bigger, and maybe is now too large for Audacity to...

Here's a big hint for figuring out these sorts of things: The block diagram is your best friend. The time you spend learning how to read and follow block diagrams will pay off in a huge way. Don

    Help with playback Tascam 38

(from the manual) "Connect the recorder outputs to the 4 stereo returns. Route the returns to MIX." That connection will be good enough for monitoring while tracking. For mixing, connect the outputs of the 38 to the board's mono inputs 1 through 8. (You may want to first disconnect the 38's...

    Electrical question

Sounds to me like your ceiling fan is wired incorrectly. No exposed metal part should be hot. I strongly recommend that you have someone who knows how to use a voltmeter check the ceiling fan against ground ASAP. It is possible that the bass strings were hot, but it seems more likely to me that...

    Tascam MM-20 mixer questions

On the Internet, time is most definitely not your friend. The post you replied to is almost three years old! A Google search for tascam "mm-20" quickly led me to this completed eBay auction, which seems to indicate that you can still find an MM-20 for cheap...

    Behringer MX400 4-Channel Line Mixer - www.zzounds.com/item--BEHMX400

That mixer would connect to a PC sound card using a "Y" cable that has two RCA plugs on one end and a stereo 1/8" plug on the other end. Very simple. Yes, it looks like the UCA202 would work. Whether it would be better depends on the sound card you already have in your computer. But I'd say as...

    Behringer MX400 4-Channel Line Mixer - www.zzounds.com/item--BEHMX400

To record vocals, you need to use a microphone. To connect a microphone to a line input, you need a microphone preamp. This line mixer has no microphone preamps in it. Therefore, it's not likely to be especially useful for recording vocals. This one would do...
