    Beg & Heal (mastered)

Thanks. That's actually a plugin that I like a lot. You can change several parameters on it to adjust the type of feedback

    Beg & Heal (mastered)

Thanks. I sent a wav that had maybe 1db of SSL compressor working and minor EQ cuts and low shelf. I let the M.E. know ahead of time. I should upload a link to the original mix that I sent him, to let anyone who wants a chance to hear the comparison

    Beg & Heal (mastered)

Hey, this is an older song I remixed and sent off for mastering to Abbey Road Online Mastering. This is the final copy I received. It was written, performed, recorded, and mixed in my home studio (with the help of many here over the years). If interested, it should be played on 800AM CKLW...

Curious about concept of vocal amplitude in a mix

You're definitely right. That's one of the first things most people tackle - the overall balance of the tracks in terms of level. As home engineers, we're usually also the one writing and mixing; and that can lead to bias toward certain aspects of the instruments. We tend to make our vocals...

    Down On My Luck

I hadn't thought much of how it sounds, but I'll look into nicer tambourines since I have been using them a lot lately. I do see what you mean about sleigh bells... now I totally hear that , lol

    Down On My Luck

So it's a matter of the specific tambourine being used and not how it's mixed.... I knew next to nothing about them when I got that one several years ago from my local mom and pop music shop. I'm sure there's a more pro-produced tambourine out there.

    Down On My Luck

Ah I see, no that's most likely because I have a panning tool on the reverb channel and it is set to only 62% of the stereo image. To me, it gives a more vintage vibe to have the entire reverb be more centered instead of fully panned.

    Down On My Luck

I used the trim on the reverb to remove about 2db of highs from it altogether. I didn't like how it sounded with the percussive instruments and top end of guitars and I wanted a somewhat darker, warm mix. Can you explain a little more what you mean about its separation in relation to where...

    Down On My Luck

Got ya. Pretty sure I would have did a high pass around 500hz, 3-4db of slow compression, and send to the reverb and delay channels. Maybe a cut around 650-800hz where the room sound builds up across all the tracks. What kind of sound could the tambourine have that would improve it, in your opinion?

    Down On My Luck

Oh ya, doing it all here. I think I had 8 total background vocal tracks, 4 on each side, doing 2 groups of harmonies to make it sound more choir-like.

    Down On My Luck

Can you somehow narrow it down, is it the cajon snare or kick sound? Shaker? Tambourine?

    Down On My Luck

I'll have to check it, thanks for pointing it out. A previous mixdown had some distorted sounds, so I wonder if that's happening again here.

    Down On My Luck

Trying something different, a live/unplugged style/sound. This is an original recorded at home studio with my Laravee acoustic, jazz bass through GNX3000, live cajon and shakers and tambourines, recorded with sm57 on guitars, sm7b on vocals, and both on the cajon front and back. Abbey Road plate...

    Wheels

Another one of the 10 tracks I've "finished", If I can get myself to stop tinkering with it :) Please share your thoughts on the mix, thanks https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/p5tg99ytceh9j9wxpmd3u/Wheels-8-9-23.mp3?rlkey=x0gz2ltmyc6brb722w75orzag&dl=0

    Send levels, Bus Levels

yes I guess that's what I was wondering - if the resolution/quality of the reverb is less if I have the reverb channel fader too low, say -17db but run the guitar bus hot to it. When you say "small adjustments", do you mean adjustments in the reverb plugin and the effect those adjustments...

Something For Me - modern blues rock

Hey everyone, since watching the Beatles Get Back on Apple, I got extremely inspired to write music that was different than the alternative stuff I was doing before - the chords changes and landscapes created in the music of the 60's was something that, I'm ashamed to say, was new to me, or at...

    Mix in progress...

The guitars are too tame during the verses, to my ears. Like they need more gain to retain some amount of energy. It's like they're plucking softly and losing the movement and energy, it also could just be how it's being performed, too tame. You're already keeping it bare by dropping the drums...

"The Reason" Song - Requesting a feedback

To me, the contrast of very dry instrumentation and reverb-washed vocals is clashing. I'd lessen the vocal reverb and increase the instruments reverb, to make it all sound more natural. I'm on headphones

    Send levels, Bus Levels

trying to find the pros and cons of how your send vs bus levels are set up. For example, If I have a guitar bus holding 4 guitar tracks, and that guitar bus is sent to a reverb channel... What is the preferred staging of these gain amounts? I can set my reverb bus to be both 100% wet AND at 0db...
