Thank you, everyone. I feel like I can move forward. As usual, this group is very helpful but this time I actually got to come out of lurkdom to say hello, too!
Thanks. At least it's good to know I'm not crazy in not being able to categorize them very well. I'm tempted to go with Indie or Indie Pop or something like that, but I always think of Indie as being guitar based, and obviously, this stuff is not guitar based. But that might be the best I can...
Hi there,
I'm a lurker here. I've found lots of great stuff reading here, but now I have a question and I'm hoping that this community can help me. I write and produce music and am hoping to release a few songs in the next month or so via various distribution channels. The problem I'm...
I do the same as Mickster. It's not unusual for me to write a song, pull something out of it because it just doesn't work with *that* song, and then write around it to create something new. I have even edited mistakes out of a song and made loops with them to use in different songs.
Okay, I can do that key. If dyermaker8 doesn't want to do it, I can give it a try. As he said, it may take a few days. We have a holiday coming up here and I'll want to listen to the original several times to get a good feel for it and untangle the harmonies.
Thank you!
I did a few songs with the band I was in back in the 90's that were pretty heavy. The only one that "fits" that has free access right now is this one. You have to fast forward through the very lengthy guitar intro to about 2:30 before the vocals start...
Thanks! I like the tracks, but I am not sure that I'm the person you want. I think a male voice would suit your material much better. I can do heavy, but not sure that would work so well with my voice here.
You do sound like you're whispering. I get that; sometimes I sing quietly for a specific effect. If that's one thing you do, then I'd say that you have a pretty nice tone to your voice overall, but as others said you can use some work on pitch. Warm-ups and abdominal exercises actually help...
From another relative newbie here: I like the music. Your playing is very nice; do agree that the tone of the rhythm guitar is unpleasant. I'm pretty old-school when it comes to distortion. Tube distortion can provide some nice harmonics but digital distortion is not very pleasing to my ear...
Thanks. I just didn't know if there was a specific way people like to hear them. Since I don't mic a kit I never really have occasion to get too fancy with drum mixing.
I don't know if there's a proper place for this kind of post but I thought I'd start here.
I'm currently collaborating with a guitar player that I've known and worked with for many years, but he's very busy right now and he has a hard time getting around to my tracks.
My projects are...
I'm a bass player/vocalist when I'm playing live so my tendency is to want to hear the bass and kick as one solid unit, since tightness with the kick is what I usually try to achieve when I play.
I'm currently mixing a song I wrote that uses two mono loops for drums. I'm using a stereo...
Oh, and another thing I can do is remove all the cymbals and hat from the mix, there is a switch to turn those off-- I could possibly play those myself (well, using the keys) and try to get some better sound that way.
Thanks everyone! Great suggestions, and I'll play around with the mix based on your feedback and see what happens. I really appreciate the critiques.
I'm using Logic Pro X so the drums are a part of that package. It's called "drummer" and they are basically semi-smart pre-programmed drum...
