    Firewire solo installation problems

UPDATE: I switched the firewire cable from port 1 to port 2 on the firewire solo and now it works for some reason. I guess port 1 is damaged. What do you think happened?

    Firewire solo installation problems

I just moved my PC from my school to my home and all the sudden when I reconnected my M-audio firewire solo, it stops working properly! Here is the issue: I plugged in the firewire solo to the firewire port before turning on the computer and tried to play a song and it just gave me a beep...

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

haha I re-read what I wrote and messed up. what I mean is how do you record tempo changes? Such as going from 180 bpm 16th notes, to 135 bpm 8th notes.

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

infernal buzzing? Maybe it's the patch, I noticed it had some weird noises in it. My other metal patches don't have odd noises. I'm using a humbucker guitar, and cheap one (Ibanez GAX70 w/stock pickups). I've tried guitar rig before, but wasn't too pleased with it compared to my boss gt-8...

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

how do you record time signatures, I think those are really tough.

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

what are good techniques to just copy the same track? How do you specifically pan and delay the 2nd track? My tracks sound too 'mono' when I do that, or one side sounds messed up.

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

interesting method. I'll have to think about it that way someday. I've always been re-recording until I get both tracks (stereo L/R) sounding good.

so you are a recording engineer? Have you recorded a band that plays complex music?

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

that's odd, never heard of it that way, but if it works then it works. How do you manage the change in dynamics?

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

what? lol well I've made some songs with my gt-8 recorded direct, but it uses spdif so that may be why it doesn't sound as good as the actual unit through an amp. I think my recording may also be due to my cheap patch. My patch is very rough.

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

dang how do you double/triple them without screwing up? haha especially 220 bpm shredfests?!?! as for two mic'd stereo, how do you effectively do that? I have one behringer keyboard amp that I play my boss gt-8 with and I am wondering if I had two SM57's mic'ing the amp, if it would work out...

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

yeah I'm recording direct. I have an SM57 and mic stand, but I haven't really desired to try it that way since I'm not too experienced with it and have been lazy with it. What are good ways to record direct?

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

how do you guys record in stereo? Do you copy and paste the one guitar track and delay it or do you just record two different takes of the same rhythm and pan them hard left/right?

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

ok here's a new re-recorded version of the same riff: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=389215&songID=5471291 how is the timing on this one? How is the mix? I also used a different distortion patch. what else do you think needs improvement?

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

what if the song is 10 or more minutes long and has very complex passages and leads, how do you cope with multiple takes? Do you record one riff here and there, then use a separate different track to continue the next sections in the song? Or do you do it all in one take?

how long does it take for you to record a perfect take?

How long does it take you all to record a perfect take of your tracks? Especially recording rhythm guitars in stereo with screwing up the timing on both tracks? It takes me forever. I was wondering if any of you have any tips to practice better?

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

well pretend it's in time, because it sounds nearly good to me. The distortion just sounds too muddy and the drums don't sound punchy. How is my track not well recorded? Any advice?
  19. B

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

yeah, well the main thing is I wanted to show off my regular mixes, and this is almost as good as I've gotten over the years, so I am looking for advice on how to improve my mix. Then I might re-record and sharpen up the tracks.

how would I mix/master this riff more effectively?

yeah I know I messed up on the timing with the drums, I just didn't want to record it over. lol I'll do that later. Besides all that, what about the mix? How can I improve the distortion and also make the entire work sound louder and clearer?
