    Drum Expansion Cards

By far the best set of acoustic drums ive heard on a keyboard is the SRX Dynamic Drums by roland. Unfortunately i dont own even the cheapest XV2020 module to pop the SRX Drum card in. But, I do have a Yamaha S80 and recently stumbled onto a plug in card i havent seen by them called the Live...

    the guitar looking keyboard thingy

Hey, Ive been dying to get one of the old ( or new)keyboards that look like guitars and you hold like guitars. I heard Roland still makes one, and i have seen Ben Folds playing one live.. However, i totally forget the model on any of them... can someone start me off with some info on the...

    Ear conditioning

something i was thinking about today: i have been mixing on standard speakers for quite a while now, and have basically learned how a mix should sound on these speakers in order for it to sound well on anything. Am I going to be in trouble when I finally start using real monitors to mix on...

am i doing the right thing

i own a darla 24 and have been using it for a bit now. But I recently dwelled on one of my habits that i do when mixing and recording that im not quite sure is the proper way to do things. I use N-Tracks 99 percent of the time to record, and usually most of the tracks i will record in mono...

    awesome post

This is a great discussion, and i figure id put my 2 cents in. To reiterate what most have been saying here, stereo is just using 2 separate channels of sound info as well as two separate speakers. Just like how quadraphonic was 4 channels with 4 sets of sound info and 4 speakers back in the...

    Automation is it???

Say for example, i wanted to put a drawn out delay onto the end of a vocal line of a song. But i dont want this delay anywhere else except on the end of each vocal line. Another example would be, perhaps putting a long decayed reverb on a horn at the end of a phrase, but not anywhere else...

    Some questions about effects

Yesterday, while listening very carefully to the Dave Matthews Band studio recordings, I noticed alot that the effects (mainly reverb) on hard-panned instruments had a very cool style. For example, the main sax parts were always hard right, however, the reverb placed on that track was able to...

    having trouble with the bass

Hey everyone, just purchased a mid range ibanez bass, and have been trying a few ways to record. Ive noticed that each method has its good and bad sides, and im a little confused about what i can do to improve the quality of the bass track. The first method i tried was plugging the bass...

Recording Parts Onto the Same Track

After i purchased the program i read that you can record more then one part onto a track, so you dont have to start a new track every time you want to do a different section of the song, which will ultimatly cut back on lag. I cant seem to figure out how to do this though. Every time i try to...

    Copyright question

I recently did a remix of the Dave Matthews Band's song, "So Much To Say". Well kinda of, i dont have the best tools, just a keyboard, and a mixer, and my mind. But i was wondering if there was any way i can get this protected or is that even allowed cause it isnt my song, i just remixed it...

    Track Copying

wasssup, My group built a studio and we currently are using an ADAT-XT and a STudio 32 linked up with the ELCO snake. UNfortunatly 8 tracks is kinda limited for us, so we figured we would have to record all the drums first and then bounce down to one track. COuple of things here that are...

    horrible buzzing

My acoustic is sick. The problem is that i have a horrible buzzing on the 7th fret of the low E string, and around 12 and 13 things really get messed up. However the rest of the guitar sounds fine. The only way to eliminate the buzz is to press REALLY hard, which is unrealistically annoying...

I think this would be a cool idea

I dont know if it had already been done or not, but wouldnt it be cool if you could get the original unmixed multitracked versions of your favorite bands studio albums so you could remix and add effects to create a totally different sound, and pracitce your mixing at the same time. Maybe the...

I am recording my acoustic guitar with only one mic and i must say no matter how much i EQ, move the mic, it sounds so dead. Is there any way i can get a mono souce from the one mic into a stereo source?? i dont have enough money for another microphone but is there any cable i could get to do...

I need some help connecting my gear

Hey there, i need some help. I just got my new mixer (studio 32) but i dont have a multitrack recorder yet, and am going to use my computer to record with. I am going to also use my home theater amplifier to amp the mixer. Obviously i need to hear what is coming out of my computer so i can...

    EQ on computers

i am considering running the master outs of a mixer into the line in on my sound card. As stated before everything should be set flat so the mixer adds the proper amount of EQ and nothing else. How exactly do you know when the computer output is "flat"???
