    Guitar effects

Sorry for the delay but here are some screenshots. So as you can see from the green-blue bars, it recognises the signal (and makes sound). I set the distortion and record a few seconds. The distortion is very obvious when I play the notes either with guitar or bass but it vanishes when...

I'll get some screenshots up asap. Been too busy to get online in the last few days but I really appreciate the help!

    Guitar effects

I've been using Cubase a few days now and it's mostly been working fine but I have had one or two niggles. The first one is recording guitar while effects on. I can hear it through the monitor while I play and any distortion I have enabled works fine, the only problem is that when I record it...

How to record drums on a budget?

Thanks for sharing. I probably won't use that most of the time but it's reassuring to see the results that are possible. The site looks pretty helpful in general too.

How to record drums on a budget?

Ah right so the program can listen to the drum recording and recognise the beats and replace them with it's own higher quality ones. Listening to the two recordings side by side, I can see what you mean. The Trigger one sounds far better. The only problem is that I just think it's too...

How to record drums on a budget?

Hadn't thought about Samson pack for a while. Only thing is that I couldn't afford it and the SM57. I might stick with the 4 mic set up and I can upgrade if I need to in the future. So you're saying to put an actual trigger (like this one for example) on the kick drum, which sends a signal to...

How to record drums on a budget?

I don't fully understand how Trigger works. Can you tell me if this is right: 1) Record drums (say 7 tracks, one per drum/cymbal/etc) 2) Open up the recorded tracks in Trigger 3) Enhance original drum tracks by replacing the recorded sounds with digital ones Is that how it works? I take it...

How to record drums on a budget?

Well we can stick with the XY method for now and if we want then we can always just get another stand to try out the Glyn Johns or Recorderman method :) That's definitely good news. I thought I would need to use my guitar amp to record bass but if two of the 1/4" are preamped then that's...

How to record drums on a budget?

Okay, I think I'm gonna get the Behringers and SM57 with the Tascam. I think the Behringers come with a stereo bar to hang both of them on. Should I just attach that to a mic stand and hang it over the drums?

How to record drums on a budget?

That's an interesting idea. So you're saying just using 4 mics could still sound okay? So the setup would be: 1)Behringer C2s (pair), held over the kit on stands. I guess that these will pretty much record the entire kit but will be the only tracks with toms and cymbals? 2)Shure SM57 pointed...

How to record drums on a budget?

That Tascam looks pretty good, I'm assuming that 4 tracks for drums is significantly better than 2? At least it would allow me to plug in all the mics anyway. Do you know if the line-ins on that interface are pre-amped?

How to record drums on a budget?

Hi all, I need just a little help here. I have a friend who plays drums and we want to record some songs. It's just a hobby, nothing too serious. I'm planning on buying a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 soon to use for recording all instruments (guitar, vocals, drums etc). We expect to record drums by...

    Simple multi-track recording setup advice?

Yeah I think I'll do that. Thanks for all the help! Well it's just that the only mic I've ever used had a 1/4" connection to an amp but it was a really cheap one and I'd probably want a higher quality mic for recording.

    Simple multi-track recording setup advice?

Isn't it possible to get mics with 1/4" connections? If not then I might have to say goodbye to the Solo. As I mentioned over on the Introduction to Multitrack thread, I was considering the small upgrade to a Focusrite Saffire PRO 14. This should be able to record 4 tracks (including 2 mics)...

Introduction to Multitrack Computer Interface Recording

I'm considering buying a Focusrite Saffire PRO 14. Can anyone tell me if this will record at least 4 tracks at once? It says it does 6 in the description but I'm not sure if it means 6 by Firewire. Some other ones I have seen have said they output 4 but that includes SPDIF and analogue outputs.

    Simple multi-track recording setup advice?

Fantastic! I think I'll go with the Firewire Solo from the ad earlier. It's used but I can't imaging getting a much better price than €100 on it, especially since they seem to go for about £150 Sterling new. Now I'll just be needing a mic or two. I would need one that has an XLR connection and...

So unbalanced isn't as good...but it will still work reasonably well over a short distance (2m) right?

    Simple multi-track recording setup advice?

Right so looking through a few interfaces, I'm thinking the M-Audio Firewire Solo might be a good choice. I just want to confirm one thing though. On his other thread, arcadeko said it was able to do 4 in (one of which is XLR) and 4 out. Is that definitely right? It just sounds a little too good...

Introduction to Multitrack Computer Interface Recording

Great article! Thanks for sharing this and making it easy to understand. I know that as a newbie I have really no say in this but this should really be made a sticky for the likes of me:p Just 2 quick questions: 1) What are/what is the difference between "unbalanced" and "balanced" inputs and...
