For what I'll be doing, this system seems to have proven its worth through the days. And with sites like VS-Planet (a bbs like this one, only for VS trouble-shooting) and the names Roland has made for itself, I'm running out of reasons not to buy it. The computer-based system would be nice if I...
Welcome!
This place, as you can see, is THE BOMB!!! You've got all KINDs of genius here. It's converting me from mere singer-songwriter to recording engineer / soundman / producer / comp.tech. / musical recording encyclopedia. No joke, Dragon deserves a web-zine prize of some sorts for this...
Hello again, fellow folks of musical inclinations! Quick recap: I'm primarily a singer-songwriter who writes on keys, guitar (acoustic) and now wishes to - e x p a n d - his (my) musical horizons. Hence, bass playing. More specifically, I wish to delve into the jazzy licks of the Upright bass...
I have a friend who's thinking of purchasing an apparent "vintage" tube console. He wants to use it to warm up the signal which goes into his VS-1680 (as well as increase the no. of inputs).
Does anybody know the Chilton brand? It's new to me, and the web is curiously devoid of any info on...
Hoboy.
I thought you were going to make me regret uncalled for labelling. HELL NO! I hate pomp and this dude's got more than your average RnB diva. Good reference to King though. Still, it would take more than a mile for me to see Kendo Webbo's world, proper. I really, and do mean really, react...
Just re-read the thread. Three conclusions:
1 - Poor Kenny D. Didn't expect THIS kind of retort, I'm sure.
2 - I sound like Mother Teresa. (But I'll stick with it)
3 - S8-N rules. Such nuance in his verbal abuse. Such attention to detail: It's invigorating - and right on the money (pun intended)
The perfect studio exists. Peter Gabriel built it. Spent every dime in his pocket. And did you hear his latest stuff? Muffled, thick - damp, even. Money won't do it for ya, buddy. Skills, passion and perseverence have no substitute. And to be honest, if I had that kind of money, I'd be looking...
Yeah, great argument there Saittn! I second the evil one on the 57 though (unless you dish out a little more for the 58beta). It (the 57) will last you years, from drums to gums. (Don't ask). Versatile, resistant. A good tool, all 'round.
I'm not sure I understand the question. Are these songs originals which you've composed and would like to record and/or duplicate? In that case, the answer would be much longer than if you're just asking how to get three Bruce Springsteen songs, two Tom Petty songs and seven Bruce Cockburn songs...
Hmm.
I'm at the point where I'm thinking the perfect situation just doesn't exist - at some point we just have to choose something. And since my Pro-Tools/24promix studio isn't around the corner, I'm just going to have to make due with something.
But thanks for the advice. If more of the same...
Muchas Gracias.
I think I will rent. One gig went by, but another just popped up... Lemme tell youz - I can't wait to have a setup which lets me record decent stuff. Thx for the advice.
Difficult to plug in my plug-in since I'm on a 4-track (or am I missing something here...). Once I get the VS-1680, granted, I'll be set with a fully-functionnal system, but until then, I'm stuck with just a mic (I'll get the C100s I gather) and a tape-recorder... Not the best tools to record...
I've got a Tascam 414. I'll be buying a VS-1680 in two to three months, but I need to get a decent demo out by Saturday or I'll lose a huge gig. I want to dump the money I have into components that will optimize the 4-track and still be valid once I get the 1680 with all its cards and integrated...
Hi. I've got a Tascam 414 and no decent mic. I need to record material by tomorrow. Short term is going to be Vox and acoustic guitar only (maybe some percussions). WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE IT SOUND GOOD? Long term I'll be getting a vs-1680, sampler, and dive into project studio proper, and so I...
Caution: Lexicon core-2 has had major problems. Stores around here have been getting 'em back. Flawed goods, it seems. I have a friend who's been doing wonders with the Lexicon Studio since last year, but it costs a mint more than you've got, Hiduk. If you chip in the salestax (if there is such...
Layth: he he he... I've heard that before. Aardvark is the reason why "never cry wolf" has been renamed "never cry 'now shipping'"... CwillU hopes to get his by December 30th. Time will tell, but I'm sceptical, given their history of last-second delays...
This being said, why would anyone pay...
Thanks! I'll definitely look into the PIII option... I can't afford Mac anyways (not just the initial purchase, if you follow). Just out of curiosity though... wassup with the velocity engine? Does that not bring anything to audio? I just dig the term "giga-flop"... ;)
True enough. I'd want to put strings into my songs. Ok. So I'll need midi. But as far as sampling goes, can you sample beats off Cd's (for instance isolate parts of a song Run DMC song?). Why is taking it off of vinyl so popular? Sound quality? Also, what's with these Cd's that have various...
More questions, always more questions :)
Hi again. I'm stuck with a Tascam 414 until I can afford a soundcard, so I was wondering if I shouldn't invest in something like the Lexicon MPX-100 for vocal effects. It could be included in the digital studio afterwards and I'm thinking it would take...
Hi. Sampling takes a ton of room (memory-wise), right? Midi does not. That's why it's still around, I gather. Question 1- How much impact does that have on latency? Do two sampler tracks tax the CPU as much as, say, ten midi tracks? What are the stats?
Also, I'm going to be recording various...
