The Sony MD 7506's are also worth checking out although they do not have nearly as good noise cancellation as the HD280s. headphone.com has a great feature on its site where you can compare the frequency graphs of various headphones. Definitely worth checking out.

I agree Gonzo. eq and compression won't do shit for you unless you a.) know how to use them on a technical level and b.) know how to apply them and make them adapt to various styles of music.

There really is no difference between Mac and PC these days. It really just boils down to "Do I like how the GUI looks?" or "Should I buy a Mac just for the sake of having one." But since you're already committed to the switch I'd recommend you go with Pro Tools only because it's an industry...

double tracking the guitar is not really an option for me because pretty much everyone in the band went off to college including myself. I had to do this mix with sony 7506 headphones and I only tested the mix on my Samsung home theater system that I have in my dorm.
