    What's Your Favorite Plugin?

AudioDamage Roughrider is pretty good. It will smash the hell out of it if you want but I like just a hint to glue the drums together. Also the Thrillseeker LA from Variety of Sound if you are still 32 bit.

Is the 500 series rack the end of the 19" rack gear?

Nope. There are some things that simply cannot be stuffed into a 500 series chassis. Sure they double and triple up the case widths but that is not really 500 series any more.

    "Loading Channel: Stereo" error crash!

If you get that error again try opening up one of the previous .bak files. If it opens then save as and it will create a new .cpr file. Delete the old .cpr and any other .bak files and save. Has worked every time for me. I don't know why this happens but it will usually crash windows on my...

Cubase 9 - I missed the implication of being 64 bit only for stability

5 years is a lifetime in software development. 64 bit is now, 32 bit was then. Why would you be shocked that an old architecture is no longer being supported. I would bet that your computer would not recognize most software or hardware from 6 or 7 years ago.

Original Sennheiser e602 Mics (and kick drums in general)

Jerden also did the two Nirvana recordings I mentioned above. I think he did Badmotorfinger too. That guy had his hands in every early '90s Seattle recording. Those are the albums that came to mind without me even having to think just cuz I grew up on that crap and it's ingrained in my brain...

    Focusrite Claret8x with PC?

Does anybody have experience with a Focusrite Claret8prex on a Windows 7 based platform? Looks like the best bang for the buck but Thunderbolt and PC scares me due to lack of experience. Doing a major upgrade at the studio soon.

Drum newb shopping for a first kit

I am going to throw out the Mapex Saturn line as a solid budget kit. I use one for my gigging kit and every sound guys says they sound great. Now, I use new heads and know how to tune drums so that helps. I would steer clear of anything less than a 20" kick although I did record an 18" with a...

    Cubase Metronome sounds

I always use one track for Groove Agent and then put the Beat Designer on the insert for that channel. That way you can create a complex pattern for your click if needed. In fact I have it saved into my template so it always shows up when I create a project.

Opinions on Audio Production PC Build

It might be having PC issues, though I doubt it considering it is a fresh build and after I swapped out the graphics card I have real fast video. And while I appreciate your desire for me to have a SSD, at almost $900 for the size I need I don't think I will be doing that any time soon. I fill...

Opinions on Audio Production PC Build

Weird. I don't have an ssd so I can't comment on that but adding a seperate hd made a significant impact on my system. I will say that when I upgraded my vid card it made a huge difference in metering response. It's not real time but it is close.

Opinions on Audio Production PC Build

You are going to want to have the OS and DAW software on one drive and write your audio to another drive. Also, a vid card with more on board memory and faster processing will help keep the meters more in time with the audio. Google optimizing pc for audio recording. That made a big difference.

Do 'Good' mic pre's make a difference, to you?

When I started out I had a Tascam Mixer. I thought I was doing pretty good until I got a new Symetrix preamp; the difference was pretty amazing. So I recorded everything one track at a time and the mixes sounded much better because the source was better. Over the years I worked my way up to...

Do 'Good' mic pre's make a difference, to you?

On a single instance basis the difference in a $200 clean pre and a $2000 clean pre is usually pretty negligible. When you start stacking tracks, that is when you see the value of an expensive pre. Also, we need to remember that when it comes to design, any engineer can get you 98% there. It...

    makeup vs output

Just yanking your collective chains, man. There is a lot of wistful longing for simpler times around here. You were a noob once too. Well, maybe not you.:)

    makeup vs output

Dude, there are a lot of old farts patrolling these waters. Learn what you can from them but don't try to teach 'em nothin'. They don't give a shit about your new fangled ways of thinkin'. Everything was better when there was only 1 compressor and 68 dB signal to noise ratio is all anybody ever...

The stupidity of 3rd party plugins.

I don't think I have ever had a plugin that installed without asking me or at least telling me where it was going to be installed. A post it and a pen are your friend in those instances. Write it down, find it, move it and have Cubase scan the folder.

    brüel & kjær 4007

How about anything that would be recorded in mono? Vocals, acoustic instruments, room mic for drums... if the room sounds good I say go omni.
