shure sm7 - worth the bucks?

Some people use them on snare.. aparently John Feldman uses them on kick... but then again he usualy drum replaces so it's kind of irrelevant. I imagine they'd do fairly well on a guitar amp but I can't back that up

    Beyer M201

M201's are great.. Theres a venue I do live sound at sometimes that has two and they always go straight on snare and hats when I'm there.. I've used one of a guitar amp live and it sounded pretty damn nice, but due to it being live I didn't have the chance to compare it directly to anything...

Neve Portico vs DMP3, VM Pro, Great River,

I love it when people make a big fuss about how something in electrical design is crap... and have obviously not done any research.. There are alot of reasons to use external power supplies.. mainly to do with sheilding and grounding.. I'm not right up on it myself to be honest.. but I do know...

    Stereo linked?

Okay... my question is about how stereo linking on compressors works... Okay... on a stereo linked comp.. is it just two channels with linked settings.. or is the actual compression linked... that kinda sounds confusing so I'll use an example... say I've got a mix running through it and a huge...

    favorite bass drum mic

I'd sujest an Audio technica atm-25. They're alot more neutral than the other mics mentioned and can get a wider variety of sounds. The other mics are good but they're all very modern rock sounding.

Rode NTK + Mackie pres question

The NTK will sound considerably better even through the mackie Pre's.. The NTK's are pretty nice mics, especialy for male rock vocals

condenser vs. dynamic for live acoustic guitar

I'd sujest getting a condenser and using only the pickup in your fold back.. but both in front of house.. If you do end up using a dynamic I'd probably shy away from the 57 on accoustic. Some people like them on there but personaly I can't stand the sound they give an acosutic.. I'd sujest a...

Potential sticky: Sugested budget mic list

yeah I was aware of the other faq, but I think that having something actualy at the top of the forum and with an obvious name of what it is would make a big difference

Potential sticky: Sugested budget mic list

Okay.. I thought this would be a good idea to keep the amount of these type of questions down.. I've just done this off the top of my head so I'm sure you'll all have heaps of sujestions to change it and stuff Kick: Audio technica Atm-25 (versatile), Shure Beta 52 (excelent for heavy music)...

What do you guys like on snares and floor toms these days?

201 on snare is great... interesting about the guitar thing.. I've never actualy tried it.. but thinking about the characteristics of that mic I can imagine it would be nice
