    AKG Perception 200

At this point I'm looking at the NT1a or the MXL2003a

    4 pin firewire

A FW doesn't do me any good on my laptop, and I read that if you use an expresscard it's still controlled by the motherboard chipset anyways. I do have an old 2.4Ghz P4 with 1GB of RAM laying around. I could pick up a PCI FW card for that. I think first I'm gonna just get an interface and see if...

    4 pin firewire

Thanks that's good to know. Man the more research I do the grimmer the situation looks for linux recording. Firewire's pretty much pointless unless you can get a TI chipset which is next to impossible unless you wanna build a new computer (which I might be able to talk myself into). Not only...

    4 pin firewire

Do audio interfaces usually come with their own power adapter?

Mic for recording violin, acoustic guitar, and vocals

That's an interesting idea. I've never heard of Naiant, and I couldn't find any reviews... are they pretty good? It would be nice to have the mic attached to my violin so I wouldn't have to worry about the sound being affected by any swaying I might do. That would give a more natural feel to...

    4 pin firewire

So I'm trying to set up a linux based DAW, and I originally planned on getting a usb 2.0 interface, but it looks like linux support is pretty bad on most of them, so that leaves me with firewire through FFADO. Only problem is that my laptop only has one of those tiny 4 pin Firewire ports. Any...

Mic for recording violin, acoustic guitar, and vocals

Yeah it does seem like a solid choice. Amazon had a nice bundle (pop shield, shock mount) for $200 a few days ago. It's $230 now. Still open to more suggestions.

Mic for recording violin, acoustic guitar, and vocals

By the way, I will eventually add piano, electric guitar, cello, and possibly others, but like I said I can upgrade in the future. Violin, acoustic guitar, and vocals are the most important right now.

Mic for recording violin, acoustic guitar, and vocals

My budget is somewhat flexible, but less than $300 for sure. This is my first time setting up a home studio. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, and can upgrade in the future. I'm planning on buying a USB audio interface. From the research I've done so far it looks as though something...

    AKG Perception 200

Yeah I noticed the 220 was cheaper, but the 200 is $400 on amazon. Are you sure the 220 is an upgrade?

    AKG Perception 200

Howdy. The local music store has a used AKG Perception 200 that he'll give me with a cable and shock mount for $189. It looks a little beat up. The top mesh is dented as if it's been dropped at least once, but he says that they tested it and they will warranty for 6 months. This is the first...
