I did em both I have used both of them, and I really have to say that it depends on you're specific needs, and surronding equipment. The yamaha seemed to be a more proffessional piece. but the tascam does have 24 trax, and it is very user friendly.

my opinion I usually track my drums in stereo, and then,, depending on the instrument and the importance of that instrument to the groove, track the rest of the sounds. for example for that west coast big bass sound you may also want to put you bass sound in stereo. just my opinion
