I have a Tascam M-1508 mixer with 4 output buses (there are 8 tracks, each with a single direct out which is RCA, so track one has direct out=1/R and track 2 has direct out=2/L, so these 2 tracks make a stero pair). I would like to record more than 4 tracks at a time without buying further...

One other thing I strongly advise you to buy a refurbished computer, not a brand new one. Go somewhere like refurbdepot.com, or all the big guys (dell, hp, mac) have areas on their websites which sell refurbs. You'll get a much better computer for the same price. I rec buying a warranty also.

One answer I have been researching the echo layla sound card for the very reason you are talking about, a more quality sound and recording multiple tracks simultaneously. I know the Echo Layla will allow this (6 balanced 1/4" ins+2 XLR ins, 8 balanced 1/4" outs) but it also depends on the DAW...

Via chipset I've read that the echo soundcards (layla evidently is the newer exception) don't work with any but intel chipsets. Specifically, I've heard the via chipsets will not work with the echo cards. Hope this helps.

I have an Echo Layla sound card, need a new computer for it. Should I look for a comp without an integrated audio system so I can physically replace the included sound card with my Layla, or can I simply put the Layla in a PCI slot and then disable the integrated audio system? What's best?
