    Cheap tube mic choice

For about $100 more you can get a CAD M9. I have one which I have found to be excellent on some voices and when micing acoustic instruments as well as a few other things. The thing is really particular about placement, but once you have found the right spot it is a really nice mic. I do not own...

How would you mic a drum kit with my mics?

Okay, I just acquired a EV RE20 to use on the kick (and later for voiceover). Managed to get a good deal as it was unpackaged and the last one th store had. How would this change the suggested setups? Thanks, Bryan

How would you mic a drum kit with my mics?

Thanks for the replies so far. I will definitely start simply and fill in the gaps as my ears hear them when setting up. Should be a lot of fun. Anyone else have suggestions? Bryan

How would you mic a drum kit with my mics?

Okay, I usually record folk/bluegrass music and when I do my own stuff if it needs drums, I usually use samples. This weekend however, I will be recording a "rawk" band that will have a real kit. We will be overdubbing after laying down initial guide tracks as we are working with limited attic...

Studio Projects dealers in New England?

OT This may be silly to post here, but I will be moving to Burlington, VT in the coming months. Also glad to hear that there are "others" in region. I have no clue what the scene in Burlington is like. I am a little envious that julia will still have me beat of the northerly lattitude front. I...

Is there music out there that I can hear the Nord Leads at work?

The new Wilco album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, uses the Nord Lead for synth and ambient sounds, if you are looking for a different way in which it is being used than either of the two other suggestions. Cheers, Bryan

    wilco synths?

I know they at least use the Nord lead 2 for the more ambient sounds and a Kurzweil (K2500 or K2600) for the more traditional sounds live and in the studio. Cheers, Bryan

    About my mic pres...

The web address for sytek is: http://www.sytek-audio-systems.com/ Call Mike Stoica a the number listed there and he will help you out. I have the 4 channel with Burr Browns in channel 3 and 4 and it gives me good options on sound. Overall the whole thing is pretty clean though, but with a lot...

    buying a TLM-103

Damn, that's one fat ugly baby in that picture too. Looks like he's getting caught with his pants down too. Oh Lordy, the shame, the shame. Cheers, Bryan

    (2) TLM-103's vs (1) TLM-103 + (2)MC012

I have them both and have tried both of them side-by-side in many applications, and except for a few instances, the tlm103 beat the C1 hands-down, at least to my ears (qualifier). I wouldn't even put the two mics in the same league really, regardless of what industry experts are saying. I...

Mic-Pre, Compressor, EQ with 2 XLRs

The Joe Meek Twin Q is exactly what you are talking about. It may be more money than you want to spend however seeing as you have been looking at the MQs. Otherwise I would look at the RNC and an audio buddy if you are going for inexpensive. Bryan

using small speaker as a mic...

The newest issue of Tape Op has an article on making a telephone mic. It involves rewiring the speaker of a phone. I am gonna try it this week. I imagine that with some slight modifications to the schematic for the tele. mic, almost any speaker could be used. You may want to check out the Tape...

Great new BB from Mix Magazine!!

JESUS CHRIST GUYS! I cannot believe the outpouring of rancid emotions that this post has incurred. We are all free users of the internet and can go anywhere that we would like to go. The fact the forum in reference is a little anemic at this point is not the issue. If Dragon has problems with...

    Pre Amp or mixer

What do you currently have? Soundcard? Software? A decent preamp going through a soundblaster is going to produce less than stellar results. If you can give us a little more information on what you currently have I am sure that we will be able to give a better answer. Cheers, Bryan
