Either that or the phones/line output..sounds the best for direct recording IMO. I've had that GT6 box for years and never could/tried hard to get a decent sound out of it , but after a bit of tweaking the other day, I realised that it's actually a great little pedal..So keep at it, with a bit...

    U5 to Avalon vt737sp....or not???

Or run the mic level signal out of "mic out" on U5 into the mic input on 737 and use its mic preamp as well as eq and comp. This is actually what the DIs are for, bringing it to mic level.U5 has just that extra option of running line out directly to your recorder (or 737 "line in" in this case...

    New to recording and frustrated.

Mic placement is usually the main reason people don't record what they hear in the room.Try a (cheap if you can't afford a good one) condenser further away from the amp. Also suggestion about the digital levels and gain at which you hit your plugins once tracks are recorded is VERY important...

    Drum Overhead suggestions...

If you're capturing the cymbal sound mainly with o/heads, I think you should be looking at putting SDCs up there. If capturing the majority of the kit sound as well as cymbals with the o'heads, and just filling the sound out with spot mics (snare,toms,ride,hh....) go LDCs. cheers
