In the market for a new interface...

Hi, My Tascam US-1800 died today, so I'll need a replacement. Tascam have the newer US-16x08, which is similar but has 2 more inputs. What i love about these units is that the 4/6 inputs on the back are line in so you can hook em up with any preamp, this is a feature not many interfaces have...

Using a stereo imager while mixing

Im currently mixing a bands EP, its fairly heavy, big riffs but it still has vocal driven choruses. When im putting this all together i love cutting down the 'center' guitar signal (tracked in stereo) leaving more L&R which makes masses of room for the vocals and it makes the guitars surround...

    A nice versatile snare

I've been recording bands around my local area, and a LOT of the drummers have horrible sounding snares, and they agree they don't particularly like the sound, but haven't put the time into getting the sound they want themselves. I know I know that i shouldn't be working with people who don't...

Cheap mics that give a drum kit definition when recording

Ive been recording drums a fair bit recently and im getting a fairly nice sound, I've been unhappy with my OHs (definitely the mic's fault not mine ive tried everything... how many times have you heard that? ;) ) so im upgrading to some SE1a's, i wanted a nice open sound with good clarity, and...

How to turn two mono tracks into a single stereo track

Does anyone know if there is a way to take two mono tracks, such as a doubled guitar, and turn into a single stereo track, without going through the hassle of rendering the tracks down? I end up with loads of tracks on Reaper and i think this would cut it down significantly! Thanks

Pop rock track - Show Me The Way

Hey I've been home demoing for my band for a while. We essentially build songs from the ground up on a computer, see what you think of this mix. In my mind its too (cant find the right word here) 'pushy' to the ears, it could be because i'm pushing the limiting too hard on the master, or...

Soon to begin my first drum recording experience.

in a few days the drummer from my band will come down and set up her gear in my bedroom, id like to know possibly some ways to help improve the sound of the drums in an untreated room. i can take up sections of my carpet, as i used those office squares (out of simpleness) should the drums be set...

Tascam US-1800 the best option for the money?

Hey again, i made a post earlier in the month about a variety of questions including which interface to buy, i have come to the conclusion that for recording a whole drum kit i will need at least 8 simultaneous ins, and the Tascam US-1800 give me this and more, i have done my research and know...
