I always found Blue Steels to be too bright/sharp sounding when you first put them on, and after they are broken in I think they are too spongy feeling and dead sounding.

You should make backup copies of your .VEG files after each save. I lost several hours worth of work when Vegas crashed while saving, it lost the file completely. This won't help you with your problem, but may save you from a big headache.

Stay far away from the Valvestate junk. I made the mistake of buying a VS100R. They sound decent at lower volume. The tone gets thin and wimpy when you up the volume. I heard lots people with nothing good to say about valvestates, I thought it was just "Tube Snob" propaganda. I had to try...
