Any suggestions on a good mic pre-amp/mixer for Pc recording... I'd like to spend not much more than $300-$400 total for both... I'd like a decent sized mixer...I've heard Mackies are good...

I've been told that there are software programs out there that act as soft-drum machines...stand alone prgrams with a graphical interface so you can build your drum tracks 1 line at a time...anyone heard of this? Are they any good? Where can I find them?

So, forgive me...I am not new to computers and "consumer" sound cards, but I have no idea on which "prosumer" cards are the best bang for the buck... So, for value and quality, what are your recomendations? 8-in and 8-out would be nice...I plan on doing everything on board of my PC, no...
