    Universal Audio 2-610 preamps

Anyone have any comments on this box? I will be probably buying one soon, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience. How is it on electric guitar, bass, drums, and vocals? Does it clip easily? What other pres should I consider? Thanks guys Dave

    Tape Saturation Demo

I was sick of people asking me 'what does real tape saturation sound like?' So I felt inclined to making this little demo here. Basically it shows you what to listen for in tape saturation and 'warmth' Its an MP3 so some of the magic is lost, but you get the point...

Hi everyone. I own a Yamaha AW16G which is a digital 16-bit DAW. I really like it but it doesnt have that analog warmth. I was thinking about buying a Revox B77 and mixing down to that, then back to the AW16G. The tape could add that warmth im looking for..ideas? Dave

Bedroom w/ auralex and Mackie monitors

I now have an extra computer from my family, that my dad has given me. Its a P4 1.6Ghz and it works fine. I was thinking about adding some Auralex foam to my bedroom (bass traps, foam panels, etc) and then buying some Mackie HR series monitors to do my mixing. Does anyone recommend any...

    Bass Boosts and mixes

Ive found that on normal boom boxes or home stereos, for a professional mix, if I turn up the bass or enable bass boost it's pretty clean. The bass instruments are brought out well. On my mixes the same happens, only now the whole mix (especially the drums) get too bassy and muddy up everything...

    Finally a great guitar tone

I finally nailed the guitar tone I been looking for, for many years. It sounds just like the guitars on Aerosmiths 'toys in the attic'. Anyway, the big trick was this: kill the treble a lot more than you think turn the tone down on the guitar, and the amp if you need to. I also used a room...

    Mixing, the spectrum meter..etc

Hi guys. On my mixes of my band I think they're fairly strong. Just a few things are still annoying me. First of all, my mixes sound good to my ears on many systems. Many people agree. However, the spectrum meter is very even, compared to most pro mixes where the meter is low-end based. Would...

    Monitors for me.

Hey, I mix a lot of things on my computer. I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS PlatinumPro and it works great. I would I plug this card into Yorkville YSM1P monitors? do I need an adapter? It has 1/8" outputs, as well as digital. thanks Dave

Peavey Kosmos vs. Others like it (like MaxxBass, etc)

How does the Kosmos compare to other sub-harmonic processors (the MaxxBass plugin and hardware come to mind)?Does anyone have experience? I know they used the Peavey on the Zeppelin DVD, and I know that the bass instruments sound huge. I know its because of that processor (no bootleg 1970s...

    That guitar tone

Sm57 on edge of speaker against grille. It still sounds so thin! Heres just a rough demo song we did, but you get my point http://216.12.218.129/members/DaveDrummer/Spin%20Of%20The%20Wheel%20Demo.mp3 Would buying a Dmp3 mic preamp or something similar help? I have a yamaha aw16G and I really...

Yamaha AW16G and other high-tech digital recorders..

Ive read how the preamps on these arent the greatest. im a little worried. I was going to upgrade from an old tascam 414 tape deck to a yamaha aw16G, but this is the only thing im worried about. Can you guys recommend a good mic preamp? I can spend up to about $500. I need a warm, vintage...

Recording drums thru a heat duct..check this out

Today the band was a little daring, and since our bassist wasnt here we were just fooling around. Anyway, I miced the guitar amps in the same room, but had a 60 (?) foot XLR cable and I was like, what am I gonna do with this. Anyway, I took it up 2 floors and put it in the heat duct...

Question on whats going in, whats coming out.

I have a basic soundblaster. i dont do a lot of line in/out so I dont worry about it much ,but I have a question: when I DI a bass guitar for example, it sounds crystal clear out my speakers. however, after I record and play it back it sounds like garage. is it the sound card? thanks

    Yamaha AW16G and monitors

I have mackie monitors. I dunno if I should plug them into the computer, because I have cheap soundcard, or just keep them plugged into the AW16G and just do most of my mixing there. I have a few plugins like vintage warmer. do you think good monitoring is really needed for that? thanks
