    Reaper 4 Is Out

Very cool, generally prefer this to cubase - I like the speedy routing options and superb VST and audio format compatability. Reaper being so lightweight helps alot too. This version is definitely more visually pleasing, very cool :)

    Guitar Recording Sounds Bad?

If I had to guess, its an issue of input impedence... I once tried my electric (and acoustic through a pickup) into an alesis multimix and the sound was extremely poor. Add a $30 art tube preamp and viola, MUCH better tones with the capability for a decent tube distortion. I'd bet a preamp...

    Controlling the Low End

After reading this: Recording Drums I have a better visual understanding of the situation, and I think my room can be made to sound great with some efforts :) In a past life I built subwoofer boxes for a living, but the business flopped, I've built literally thousands of enclosures (not...

    Controlling the Low End

Looking now and about to build my new monitor cabinets. :) My budget is $0, but I've got some materials here and there and what seems like a useable room. But now lets assume all is well, monitoring ability is top notch... what are some techniques to deliver a nice solid low end without the mud?

    The Case For Graphic Equalizers

One of the best additions to my guitar rig was an EQ. Now the recorded sound starts about where I want it to be. One could argue, however, that recording as dry as possible with as little in the signal chain as possible will yield higher quality results - as digital processing is...

How does room size play into the necessity of treatment?

    Controlling the Low End

I'm actually in a large basement (20ftx30ftx7ft?) Concrete floors, a dropped acoustic tile ceiling, and wood panel walls. I do have a subwoofer, extends into the low/mid 30s fairly well. My monitors do get to about 50hz or so, rebuilding the cabinets for them today which will hopefully help...

    Controlling the Low End

not at all, the methodology was posted as a work in progress... certainly helps point things in the right direction, but 100% certainty of proper mix requires an expanded methodology, which I hope to gain by being here.

    Auto-tune

Wow, autotune in gospel... the power of a gospel is the uniquity of each individual voice, why blandify this wonderful natural sound??? I guess its shifting from "god gave me this voice" to "god gave me this autotune". The funny thing is, both statements would be correct, which leads into the...

Oh The Garden Gnome my bed is freezing!!!!.Happy song :)

A different sort of distortion would be nice, this does get sonically irritating. Perhaps a better mix of clean and distorted elements would help it be less hard on the ears. Guitar cab emulation programs typically do a great distortion, I'd definitely go that route.

    Fight

Sure didn't expect to hear a lack of bass :), even my little computer sub here is puttin in some work trying to reproduce the low sweeps and bursts of 30 some hz. Are you saying more of that range is needed, or more in the 80-200hz range? Im not sure what you mean by wooly in reference to the...

    Fight

Fight, because the general idea was angry, and some inspiration was taken from the fake punching sounds of kung-fu movies. Working on my musicianship/mixing/mastering skills all at once, this I recorded a while ago and sorta forgot about - recently took as a mastering excersize. Was extremely...
