I own a pair of Tannoy Reveals and Alesis RA-100 power amp to drive them. I used them for the first time today and turned the level up to 3 on the power amp, and boom, the woofer on my right monitor blew. Did I have it up too loud? It didn't seem overly loud, but it's my first time with these...
Besides mics, compression and mic pre's, what other outboard gear is essiental to record a good drum sound? Will I be needing gates, ect..?

Are all 1/4" cables capable of carring a balanced signal, or are the TSR the only types? The reason I ask this is becuase if I use a non-balanced cable for patching and stuff, that would inset some line noise and such, correct?
