    Copyright Laws + Karaoke

I have been asked by a few different people to record their voice on top of karaoke music that they have. So I believe I need to be worried about copyright laws. Am I liable if I record something that is copyright for someone, or are they liable? At what point is the copyright of a karaoke CD...

    Compressing final mix

I know most software compression (and some hardware compressors) have the option of compressing based on RMS average value or peak value. I know what the difference is, but which one should you use on compressing the final mix? I would think the peak detection method would be best, but I would...

Where Can I Get Free Sound FX?

Does anyone know of a site where I could get some royalty free sound effects for little to no money? In particular, I'm looking for an air-raid siren. There are plenty of royalty-free air-raid sirens out there to download, but they're all 8-bit crappers. I just want a quality air-raid siren!

    Which card to buy

Like you said, you're going to need at least 8 inputs if you want to record a drum set. 8 is enough for a drum set, but you will always want more. I'm not positive, but I think both the 1010 and the Layla offer 8 analog ins and a digital input, which you can buy a A/D converter for if you want...

    Recording Contract

I posted a thread in the marketing/publicity category. I know I'm a bastard for posting the same thing twice, but I really need some good advice quick. I would appreciate it if you looked at it. It's subject is "Recording Contract." Thanks!

    Recording Contract

I finished recording a band a while back and I have been working on mastering their CD. I proposed a contract for them to sign. The only substantial term that they had to agree with was the following: No editing in any way can be performed on the Master, or any part of the Master, by the...

    sonar and tc works

I use to have the problem of errors occuring and spontaneous reboots while making certain changes, using Waves or just by pressing the "stop" command. It turns out that for me it was a soundcard driver problem. Here's what you should try: Download the latest driver for your soundcard from the...

    Audiophile 24/96 or Echo Mia?

I posted this in another thread: "I own a MOTU 2408 mkII and I love it. It has 8 analog inputs built in (and 8 outputs). Also, you can by an A/D converter, like the Alesis Adat AI3 and get another 8 analog inputs for your sound card. You can buy another yet and get 24 total! In addition to...

    mic cables...what's the deal?

Also, the reason you need more power to produce low frequencies is because you need to move a heck of a lot more air. High frequencies are generated by very small wavelengths repeated quickly--the speaker cone does not travel far at all, but it goes back and forth very quickly. The subwoofer...

    mic cables...what's the deal?

I think that time-alignment is a crock of crap that they're feeding you so you spend more on a cable. Electrons are traveling down a wire like water in a tube. The electrons cannot pass in front of one another, just like the water in the back of the tube can't pass the water in front of it...

    compacting audio data

Alchuck is exactly right. By compacting your audio data, your hard drive does not have to work so hard when playing back your music. I noticed that when I compacted 20 or so tracks the hard drive meter went down substantially.

WDM and DMA drivers, how do i get to them????

You need to specify your sound card. Try visiting the manufacturer's website. If they have any WDM drivers available, they will probably have them there to download. You should have been able to tell if Sonar is taking advantage of WDM drivers when you first started. It should have said that...

Sporatic Cpu Meter Changes In Cakewalk

Sounds like the problem might be from other programs interfering like the other guys said. I'm not familiar with XP, but in 98SE you can check out what programs are being loaded on your computer by going to Start/Run. Type msconfig and press enter. From there you can click on the tab...
