    Lion OS and Logic issue?

I've had it installed around 5 days. I also read that it "takes time" , I just can't get a straight answer as to why? I'm not super computer savvy, so that doesn't really make sense to me, does it to anyone else?

    Lion OS and Logic issue?

I just loaded the newest Mac OS "lion" on my iMac. Suddenly Logic is running really really slowly as are other aspects of the computer, but this is a home recording forum. Anyone heard of this, experienced this, can anything be done? Thanks

    BIG up front guitars

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for future projects, it's good advice. Couple questions, you are probably very right in saying that my problem is not the pre's I chose, I'm inexperienced and my issues are definatly not gear related at this point. But just out of curiosity, when recording attacky...

    BIG up front guitars

So I recorded and have been mixing 5 songs by a friends band as a "practice" session. In exchange for the free recording and my time, the band rented me two Universal Audio 610-2 mic pre's because I wanted to play around with some higher end gear and this was the perfect excuse. The results have...

    Beta 52a or AKG d112?

I read up on the two that were suggested, I like what i read, but what is it about the two I mentioned? Why are they everywhere, why are the ones you mentioned "better"?

    Beta 52a or AKG d112?

Of these two affordable "industry standard" mics , the shure beta 52a and the AKG d112. What's the best? The most thump for your buck and why? Keep in mind I personally like really crazy "modern" kick sounds.

General tips for recording engineers from mastering engineers

To all you mastering engineers, what are the major do's and dont's for a mix you are about to master. What frequencies do people send out in mixes that make your job harder/easier and on what instruments do they usually occur. What's always to loud in a mix what's always to quiet? Any general...

    My monitoring posistion (kick issues)

Thanks, where would put bass traps in the room I described? And do you have a home made trap solution as apposed to "pro" ones.

    My monitoring posistion (kick issues)

So, here is my mixing situation. I am in a smallish room, 8' ceilings, plaster walls (no treatment) the right side is open, so really its three walls. I have KRK Rockit 5's, they are head level, about 4.5' apart turned slightly in about 18"s from the wall behind them. The left monitor is...

    Knee?

Thanks, I like your answers. I have a post up about bussing and another about frequencies. If you have the time read those over and let me know your thoughts.

    Knee?

What does "knee" on a compressor do? I mess with it all the time on a range of compressors and for the life of me I can't hear it change anything!!!

    Annoying Frequencies

Thanks, ill mess around with that. But isn't that in the family of frequencies that you generally ADD to guitar? What instruments or mics would generally pull that frequency from?
  14. C

    Annoying Frequencies

What are the "annoying" , "harsh" and unnecessary frequencies in a song that can be pulled. And what instruments generally produce them? This is always where I get crazy at the end of a mix, it sounds good, then you crank it, or throw on the shitty ipod phones for a test and there are these...

    To Much busing?

So I know the quick answer to my question is "get better sounds on the front end" , that time has past and now I'm mixing. And honestly I'm pretty happy with the sounds I've captured over all. So my question? Say I compress, EQ, whatever a particular instrument. Let's say the kick for sake of...
